Re: under the thumb
I just think players are looking for something really different. I mean how many times can you watch the same type of movie just redone by different actors. Eventually you will just start switching saying eww didn't see him pick up the cup of tea last time let me watch for a little.
I know if there is a game that is way out there something no ones has ever thought of doing it would be probably more enjoyed.
Same thing different lines basically all the same except for wording and how they may do things in the game.
A hamburger is just meat and sauce, bun. Ooh I want the cheeseburger its just meat and cheese, sauce, bun a little different. Once you tried so many combinations you get bored.
P.S. You can't satisfy everybody. No point in trying. Never compromise your work cause if you do its no longer yours. Its like your painting a beautiful picture that you like and are still working on it. I come in and say ooh no that color is all wrong change it now make it green red looks ugly. That tree like weird take it out now! No ones gonna buy your picture if you don't listen to me. I am all knowing!

@Xasher: Surely you jest, sire?!
I've posted this before elsewhere but it applies here now.
I know it's easier to lump us all together and stereotype all of us that are not happy as powergamers, power levelers, etc., and pretty much call us ADD victims, shallow, and unintelligent, but that is the tactic of a weak mind.
Everyone is an individual. They have individual reasons for quitting. They have individual reasons for staying. There is no way to lump us all into one thought and be done with us.
It's harder, yes. But that's the requirement to speak and act intelligently with the rest of the population of Earth.
Powergamers exist, yes. Powerlevelers exist, yes. Not everyone you disagree with is one of them.

Re: under the thumb
I dont see what this has to do with anything i posted above. As many times as you say your an individuals people as groups do act in similar ways and for the same reasons. Hell we just went thru an election are you offended by being called a democrat or a republican ?drech wrote:@Xasher: Surely you jest, sire?!

I anticipated this reaction seems when some peopee feel the need to be heard by flaming anothers opinion but theyre not smart enough to realize that they have nothing to say that is intelligent, They jump on the im an individual bandwagon. You cannot speak for all of us...im an individual. If you truly have something to say then say it and accept the consequences.
Lets not hide behind your grouping me together im an individual defense. You all know i'm referring to an observation of mine...if you fit the mold then you fit mold. Human beings are herding animals...we group together and develop group patterns. The im an individual defense is bull and you know it. Everyone falls into a catagory including yourself. Your in the im flaming you but i'll pretend im I am not because you feel the need to be offended by something that probably doe not even apply to you.
Ok we heard you...next.
Re: under the thumb
Here is what you said:
So, I set myself up for the long haul with multiple accounts, spent the money to sidegrade to an nVidia card because of issues with ATI, bought a new monitor, and you consider me an ADD gamer who bailed because his trial period was ending?
These are your words. Is this not what you meant? Were you unable to pen your thoughts accurately? If you look at the timing of the exodus your seeing on Ryzom it corresponds with the natural loss you would expect after the 30 day free period. You also see when patch1 was instated the powergaming wiplash I mentioned above.
Again, your words. So, I register an account, see the game is good, then register a second account (which means two boxes for me as well as two monthly payments). Are these the actions of someone who isn't interested in sticking with the game and plans on quitting after the 30 day trial period? According to you, yes.All of this quitting and posturing you can see in just about every MMorpg after the first months trial period. Most of the people who have quit or are threatning to quit or have major issue with the increase in difficulty in the game would all have left anyways, wether patch 1 was great or horrible.

Re: under the thumb
So again I say why are you flaming a post that has absolutely nothing to do with you ? Did you leave the game ?....drech wrote: So, I set myself up for the long haul with multiple accounts, spent the money to sidegrade to an nVidia card because of issues with ATI, bought a new monitor, and you consider me an ADD gamer who bailed because his trial period was ending?

Re: under the thumb
Wow. I can't believe there is even an argument going on about the classes of gamers here.
Xasher is just stating some oberservations, of which I think he has alot of valid points. It doesn't seem to me he is trying to offend anyone, but again just making observations. Yes we are all individuals and unique in all our own ways, but like it or not it is a fact that to a point people DO fall into categories. It's no different than (not to imply that gamers are mental... lol) saying people have brain disorders and one is classified as a borderline personality and another is classified as a schitzophrenic. They are both classified as having a brain disorder even though their disorders are unique to that person. There are just certain qualities about people that do make them certain types. Such as again another example, some people may be classified as aggressive, others laid back. Still a category no matter how unique each person might be. Besides, take a look at marketing... Is it not geared towards groups of people that are classified in certain categories? Which this is what leads me to my point... Xasher is only pointing out what he sees as his observations as to the types of people who will and won't stay and there really is no need to get ones panties all in a bunch because God forbid you might actually be in a category which wasn't even directed to any one person in particular anyways, again, just an observation. Being in a category does not mean it's a bad thing anyways, it's just human nature.

Re: under the thumb
It can't stop now..I almost leveled.
(thank God it's over, I could feel Xasher getting ready to nuke me with something there could be no response to.)
But just for the record, I'm not a powergamer but I did cancel my accounts. I'm angry over the changes (that from other posts seem to be fixed now?) after having spent nearly $3k in upgrades for SoR-Live. I didn't know SoRII would be merged in.
