Remove the XP notification.
Say whether or not XP was recieved, but not how much. This will allow people to focus more on finding what they can handle, rather than finding the mob that gives the most XP.
Level 250 is the highest level in the game, for monster and us. if you are 250, you shouldn't be able to easily handle a mob at 250. a mob at 250 should be a raid level mob, the scale is sliding for monsters, always has been in every RPG. Something the same 'level' as teh players is almost always more powerfull than them. at the lower levels, this isn't that much of a variation, but at higher levels it's very significant.
Gaining a level a night of play is good for lower levels, but NOT at medium or higher levels. Compare to the most successfull MMORPG of all time (so far) EQ. How many 'blue' con creatures did it take for you to go from 40-50? Millions is probably not over-estimating it. 50-60? You are lucky, if hardcore, to be getting a level a week, if not hard-core, one a month. They were something to be proud of.
Here in Ryzom, it's roughly only every 5 levels that you increase your 'power', gaining access to new stanzas. Comparatively, you shouldn't be getting 5-10 levels per night except at extremely low levels.
Letting players see how much xp they are getting, is encouraging the power-gamers to go level fast and not worry about the fun of simply grouping and killing. After all, if you are in a group killing stuff, does it really matter what you are killing? Killing the Destroyer Krozak isn't going to give you that Kitin Claw +5 of Icyness. Play to have fun, not level. If you only find fun in leveling, then you dont' want an RPG.
Feature Wishlist Part 2
Re: Feature Wishlist Part 2
I'm sorry, I have to disagree with this here. For one, I believe there ARE mobs above lvl 250, and another, a character SHOULD be able to take on an equal lvl monster. In DAoC, a fighter type, once he's hit lvl 20 or so, with decent gear, can usually kill a mob that cons yellow (approximately equal lvl). By lvl 40 or so, maybe earlier, he could handle an orange con mob (slightly above level), but even by level 50, which is the max level, said fighter cannot reliably handle mobs that con higher than orange (there are red and purple, which basically mean painful death)mikwana wrote:Remove the XP notification.

Now, the amount of xp it took to gain a level at higher levels made it extremely grueling to solo mobs that conned even orange, and soloing orange con mobs was never easy, usually resulting in downtime. Yellows were easy, didn't give as much xp, and killing below your level was solely for the loot to sell/salvage. Seeing the amount of xp you got, more often than not, didn't make much of a difference.
I think that in Ryzom, I should be able to fairly reliably kill a monster that is equal to my level, and more reliably as I get stronger. A monster of lower lvl should not be able to hit me that often, or that hard, and one of equal lvl shouldn't be able to kill me in three shots. Oh, wait, this wasn't an issue before patch 1, sorry. Should I get max xp for going solo? Probably not. But it shouldn't totally suck, either.
In DAoC, the most xp you got from killing a mob was, if I recall correctly, around 2-2.25 times what you got for killing one at equal level, and I think that worked out pretty well in terms of balance. Seeing the xp drop in Ryzom after a bunch of kills simply indicates that the group as a whole is getting stronger, and even the casual player, IMO, gets a sense of satisfaction in knowing that he, too, is getting stronger.
So, after having said all this, I can only ask that the xp alerts not be taken out. I disagree that it serves only the powergamers; I think there is good there for everybody. I think all games of this nature have xp indicators, and to take it out of this game, IMO, is silly.

I didn't mean take out the bar, keep that just the way it is. Remove the actuall # of xp that you recieve. So, instead ofichigono wrote:So, after having said all this, I can only ask that the xp alerts not be taken out. You recieve 1400 1h melee XP
You'd simply get:

Re: Feature Wishlist Part 2
I don't like getting aggro'd by mobs I don't get any XP for killing, just as I don't go around attacking mobs that I have no hope of being able to survive if it were to hit me once or twice.
Re: Feature Wishlist Part 2
a way to repair items would be vry welcome i think for alot of people make it so the item loses a bit of max dura each time of course so that it doesnt destroy the economy but the way things are atm its hard to buy a decent weapon when one breaks unless you can make your own
Re: Feature Wishlist Part 2
Didn't want to read 5 pages, so sorry if there's an overlap
-----------------------
-A way to bind game actions to mouse buttons. Being able to have 3rd, 4th, and 5th mouse buttons do things like auto-run, initiate attack, free look mode on/off, target nearest enemy, open regional chat, or whatever.
-Be able to cast healing magic on myself. I love Ryzom, but this is hands down my biggest complaint. There's no good way for a solo fighter to heal him/her self. Healself is only good as a quick save, but its useless if getting repeatedly aggroed or in a fight that lasts long. I've got a healing spell, why can't I use it on me?
-A chat key. Its annoying to have to click the chat window to chat. I wanna just hit a key, type, hit enter, and move on. My mouse is busy darnit.
-Editable Chat tabs. It'd be nice to have region and area both combined into one screen, rather than having to moniter each seperatly.
