A few days before the patch we managed to get to the Abyss of Ichor teleporter. My friend and I are close to the same forage levels. We are Matis and I have level 113 forest forage. My Prime Roots forage is 54 as of tonight. So when we were there before we had just over 50.
Before the patch we had no problems pulling 1-2 q100 mats. This was adequate for our needs to supply our crafters in our guild who average around needing level 80-90 amps for example. It was nice to finally actually see supreme mats.
After the patch it is a disaster. We are now averaging 54-60 quality. It is fail fail spoil spoil etc. The funny thing is that we are getting like 8-11 per pull. We do not need this QUANTITY. We want a small amount of QUALITY.
So... I wrote up a ticket. And I hear from the GM who is also foraging in PR and getting 1 150 mats. However, his level is 150 PR forager. We chat and he asks if I have the material extraction spec.
I do not. So, since I am getting full of all these various levels of mats... I hustle back to Matis, sell and look over the information on the brick. Whoa! This says that this brick will slow the quantity and improve the quality of the materials.
So... I buy it for amber and shell and wood and hustle back to meet my friend.
Remember, that he does not have the spec brick.
So we start team foraging again trading off care and harvest. My results over a half hour period were that I WAS getting far fewer numbers of mats pulled. But the quality did not improve ONE SINGLE iota.
On top of that ... being in the prime roots I ended up dead 3X.
I played with the settings... carefully looking over how they come from the trainer and matched that in my extract. I made small changes to rate etc. But nothing changed. I was getting mats between 50-64 consistantly. He managed to get two pulls of q 79. And remember HE DOES NOT HAVE AMBER SPEC. The major HUGE difference I noticed was that using this spec did lower my focus used. But this really does not matter as the timer runs out anyway.
I am feeling rather low at this point. I literally loved to log in before this patch. Now... I am back to thinking that Zuma Delux might be a better use of my time.
Why is it that every company who has made an MMORPG takes this same route... taking away the feeling that the game gave of accomplishment and replacing fun with frustration?
I loved sitting and mixing and matching different mats in my crafted items to see all the posibilities. Now... well... I dunno. I am so discouraged.

Some Examples of Harvest now
Re: Some Examples of Harvest now
As far as I can see it from the patch notes, you are trying to pull q100 mats with a skill of 54. So it won't work. You'll get something of at least q54 and then higher if you're lucky.
Patch Notes wrote:2) When the quality expected is 10 below the player's level : higher the difference between the expected quality and the player's level, slower the quality grows. E.g.: I have a 200 level in Desert specialty and it's my first time in the forest (50 is then my level in Forest specialty) I can forage for a quality of 200 with a very slowly growing quality or forage for a quality of 50 growing faster. It is more crucial then ever to take care of the source if a high quality is expected. Furthermore, if you decide to use another stanza regarding the quality during foraging, the quality will change after a while. Note : in order to maximize the use of the available time, you would better carely prepare your actions, keep in mind that your focus does not lasts forever ! E.g.: instead of trying to have both high quality and quantity, focus more on one of them.

Exactly how Im feeling and also what I loved to do, I used the combination of 11 different mats to make my q90 heavy armour.

thats pretty much it. I pull ql 110 in the desert cuz my desert is 104, but i never go for higher that ql; 80 when in the forest, since my forest xtract is 65. Simple really, makes ,more sense
Am i supposed to write something witty here ?
Re: Some Examples of Harvest now
Hmmm... perhaps it does make more sense.... but here is the situation. I started the same time as 5 other people. We all formed a little guild that has grown.
The others who are fighters and mages are continuing to make 3K in exp. I no longer can keep up with them in providing materials.
At this rate, it will take me apx 50 days to bring my skills up to level 100.
And further... there are no vendors now who you can sell to in the roots. I can no longer afford the tickets there because of the times that I die. In fact, if I go to Kami Circle now... I am still stuck basically with the same situation. At level 113 forest forage, I make apx 800 xp per pull (either single or in a team situation). So.. I can not hope to keep up with my fighters there either. And as with the PR the vendor there will no longer trade with me. I have watched for the hawkers that used to sometimes be around the village but so far I have not seen any.
Again... there is NO WAY that I can hope to get to Kami Circle consistantly by running there. And using the teleporter means that I am losing dapper every trip.
The irony of course is that the first people to come into the game were able to get to the PR with no patrols... They pretty much will have it all to themselves from now on. At least one person who forages there has been charging 1 mil dapper for a suit. He will be lucky if anyone can afford them now.
I can not make a dapper to save my soul now.
I get 60 to 80 xp for digging up qual 50 around towns. I can no longer even clean my death points there without digging for an hour or so.
Is this the way people want it?
If so... then you are welcome to it I guess.
For me, the joy is gone.
I can find NO upside here. And believe me I have tried.
Sadly, I think it is time for me to hang up my pick and fade away in Atys.
I am no longer wanted here.

Re: Some Examples of Harvest now
Not sure what your actions are, but you should be able to get around 1k xp per source in Kami Circle.
I am level 110 in forest forage, and can pull between 6 and 9 q100 mats very easily now. For a full 9 mat source I get around 1200xp (maybe a little less, I don't remember the exact number), and that's without careplans or anything else, just a straight pull. For info, my actions are as follows:
Gentle speed 3
Gentle rate 3
Quality 100
Forest terrain specialisation
-100 focus credit
I don't use any timer bonuses on my prospect, and source mode permitting I get a maximum of 9.1 mats per source with my 1250 focus.
Last night we did a little experiment with me foraging using a 64 credit aggressive action and my +400 focus heal with someone else using careplans and I could pull a maximum of 17 mats per source.
Last night I went from level 108.5 to level 110 in about 4 hours pulling q100 mats and came away with 9 stacks of q100 choice mats. That seems a reasonable rate of progress to me.
With regard to PR foraging, I noticed before the patch (havn't checked after, may be different now) that PR terrain specs were available after level 150, which to me suggests that level 150 was the 'target' to reach before attempting anything in PR. I might be wrong, but that's what I think.
It seems to me that harvesting is designed for you to extract mats at your level or lower, which makes sense to me. If you attempt to go way over your level, you'll get many failures. I have not had a single failure of any kind pulling q100 mats so far. It's actually not all that different than before the patch in that respect. Last week I visited Fyros, bought desert terrain bricks and attempted to pull q150 mats from a q200 source. I could get very few per pull and got many failures, because my desert forage was level 50 and I was trying to forage 100 levels over this.

Re: Some Examples of Harvest now
Well... aye. I can do that too. The problem is that there is nothing other than choice basically in Kami Circle. At level 113 I now am getting apx 800 per pull. And as my level improves this will continue to drive down.
I can go to Thesos... (I have a ticket there as well)... but now the same situation applies. I am pulling from level 200 sources so it will be fail fail fail.
Wait until you try to go to Heritics Hovel. There the situation is even more grim. The aggro is staggering. And the mats are ... even worse than you can find in the Trove or Kami.
The problem as I see it is that they have looked at forage as a separate entity from fighting - magery. To remain even a viable member of my guild I SHOULD be able to contribute some nice mats for people. But they are rapidly going over 100 and I simply can not keep up.
That and the fact that I can no longer get any decent prices for the mats that I pull ... and that store bought mats are so much more expensive means that the carpel tunnel syndrome I was getting from trying to level my craft is moot any more.
Look... I never wanted to be on a leveling tread mill. I would prefer that my skills move forward on a natural progression. So... do not even argue with the theory behind their ideas. It is just that they do not work in a real world where you have a few people who are cleaning up because they traveled to level 175 so fast... have full access to all the spawn points because they got to the roots before the heavy patrols... etc.
It is a case of the rich getting richer and those of us who started after who are stuck in a never ending losing battle to try to keep from falling further and further behind. Yah.. when everyone else gets to 250... I will be able I guess to start to catch up. But... honest... that is NOT FUN.
And even worse... there is no frigging way I will be able to get to Tryker or Zorai now. I doubt that the entire server can get any one through with the aggro and the inability to survive the huge hits that can be made on us.
And even if I could... I am still stuck with an even worse situation. I can only get choice mats in that racial group. They are absolutely no use to me other than to level up an area that is marginally viable to only a small minority of Matis who might be gonna craft in that area.
I am struggling to sort out some kind of future for me that I can do here. So far I have not spent any of my crafting sp. Do I now focus on only one area of specialization? Cause certainly I will have to provide my own materials now. I can not afford them any more.
I appreciate all the suggestions by the way.
I am not trying to whine and complain my way forward. I am just dealing with the reality that I see. I will struggle and fall further and further behind and I really am not a masochist. I play to have a bit of fun. I never expected to be uber.
I am not someone who enjoys the 'whack a mole' aspects of fighting the same mobs for hours at a time.
I have a good imagination. I prefer some adventure to being on a level mill.
This is what forage brought to the table.
I needed to be clever as I can not survive aggro. This brought the elements of the rogue classes I have always preferred to play before in other games. I love the exploration aspects of MMORPGs but in reality... Matis is not very big and there are no real dungeons etc. to add a challenge. You can only really explore if there is some chance of being able to hide or get away from some aggro beast who is intent on your demise. I laugh at the thought of exploring any other land... as that would be pure suicide.
I have leveled my fighting skills some. I think my highest is 62 pure healer. With melee and offensive magic fairly close. I got to the point where I could kill a scary gingo though I needed to be sure I did not aggro more than one. It did seem to me however that the 'new creature code' was making each companion animal more aware of my presence. And don't get me started to talk of the aggro distance of the patrols in the PR. 125 meters and they can start to seek you out.
Due to some decisions that the design team has made we now have a situation where there are haves and have nots in the game. I doubt that those who got here first are gonna quit. But of course, if there are no new people coming in or willing to slog it out... then there won't be much of a game left.
I love this world. I felt it was like the book Dune where the world really does have an ecology and I could find a way to fit into it.
Now... I am not so sure that it works together very well at least for someone like me who is a woman in real life and a bit older than the average person playing MMORPGs.
thanks for reading and the suggestions. Maybe there is an upside somewhere that I am not seeing.

Re: Some Examples of Harvest now
Its a fairly simple concept now. You ahve to aquire the lvl or the area you want to be harvesting first before you cabn use those skills effectively.
Its the same as it has been in crafting all the time. I was able to make Q110 light armor too because i was lvl 105 heavy armor crafter but i had to live with a lot of fails.
So basically you are just complaining that you cant do the same things as you did before.
Just lvl up PR and you will be set. Its the same for everyone. And looking at everyones lvls I don't think lvling goes too slow. Still not.
The system as it is now makes far more sense.

Sky... it is not like that at all.
It is not like crafting. Crafting has never killed me even once.
Would you craft if 4 out of 5 times the item you were crafting blew up in your face or emitted poinsonous gas so you had to stop your action and deal with that failure?
If I remember correctly, one set of heavy armor made gave me aprox 1/3 of a level at my highest. So... I make 3 sets of heavy armor at level 60 and I get a level to 61. Half of the time I was getting the full amount of xp that I could expect to receive for the type I was doing.
Right now in the PR there are no sources other than level 200. This means that I fail not half of the time. I never succeed. NEVER. I can NEVER get full xp. Every time I extract I am told that my forage action failed... not just once but repeatedly. So... I am left with mats that average q 30 or less.
On top of that, I can not make enough dapper on it to support the tickets I need to get back here.
It is a catch 22. All I am asking myself is do I want to face this disapointment every day for the next 40-50 days to just get to the point where I can succeed just once?
Would you do that with crafting? I think not.
Please do not patronize me.
Thank you.
