This isn't a role playing thread, just a report of how hard it was to find the game, but how worth it it has been.
First off I live in the DFW metro area (Dallas Tx) so finding a game hasn't ever really been an issue, usually if it exists, I can get it within a few days of release...normally. So release day came and I went on the hunt. My normal game hunting grounds is Fry's Electronics (one exit down I 20 from my house, so it makes sense to try there first), the game guy was replaced and some college kid that doesn't EVEN PLAY online games was there. He had never HEARD of Saga of Ryzom, and when I mentioned it was online, he laughed.
One store down, 700 to go.
So my Hubby got into the hunt, He went to an EB games store up near where he works, the store was near Grapevine mills mall. This guy had something of a clue, and reported that when he looked up why the shipment was late, he got told the hurricaines were throwing off shipments from overseas. Ok, now THAT made sense at least.
Another store down, time to hit the online superpages and let the cell phone do the walking.
14 stores from Grapevine to Grand Prairie and back again hadn't ordered it, but due to demand WERE...ETA two weeks. LOL yeah right, online gamers will wait that long *snorting laughter*
Finally hubby called the EBgames in Parks mall in Arlington, the guy had a serious clue and had ONE copy. Yes he would hold it since they are less than five minutes away. He said he had not anticipated the demand and had an overnight express from Paris due to arrive tonight with 20 copies.
Ok, this guy was NICE, knoweldgable or at least good at faking it and actually played or tested some of the games he sold. I guess I found a new store to buy games from.
But I am sure that this game is worth it, I loved the beta and with 250 PLUS levels in combat...well that tells me VOLUMES. I didn't get to see HALF the game in beta...my highest level EVER, other than the stress test, was 39 harvester/30 crafter/25 warrior/15 mage On a cute little Tyker.
I would request that any expansions either be downloadable, from the week before it is released with a patch that activates the expansion OR that you triple your estimated number of needed copies.
We Americans are online gaming NUTS, I would expect at least 100k to buy ANY new release and at least 70% of your NA Subscribers to buy most if not ALL expansions.

Personaly I pre-orderd but didnt get it till yesterday and then there was much hassling with the EB devil over my pre-order codes and Mike the guy at EB wasnt that helpful. So after 2 phone calls and 3 e-mails i got it. Thats my story im sure there are alot more WORD UP YO!
edit: note i agree witht he above statement about pre-downloading instead of going to a store to get. Just look how many EQ box updates sit on the shelf......o yea knowbody plays that anymore......hopefuly

Well if it makes anyone feel any better, I don't have my pre-ordered copy yet either. I swear they've shipped though, we saw them in the EB near our office today at lunch.

Re: The saga of finding the game
hm gamestop took 36 hrs to process an 'up to 24 hr processing time' order grrrrrr...so i won't be in business til tomarrow finally...i swear fedex hates me...18 hrs in the sort facility
You'd think something that was held overnight would be shipped in the morning but noooo it wasn't shipped til 3 pm what the heck?

Re: The saga of finding the game
Hahaha. I too live in the DFW area. I too called the EBGames at The Parks Mall and he said he had one copy. I declined and asked him to not hold it for me, now Im glad I did!
I got my copy from the GameStop on I-30 and Collins. My friends drove from S. Dallas all the way to pick theirs up from the same store due to the fact that no one else had it.
The local game stores got so sick of me calling.
Sheesh.
