patching means the day off for playing

Post by roadgoat »

patching for me takes an incredible amount of time. it took all day and last night to get patch 1. then when i get back from work.....another patch is ready, this one is still going and will probably keep going till midnight. i'm on a fast campus lan. i've already had them open one port for me for this game......do i need to do this again to be able to patch ryzom in a reasonable amount of time? and which port?

You have to subscribe to at least DSL connection. Then your problems will vanish instantly. How come it's possible to live on Dial-Up today? You can get cable for like 25-35 bucks a month...

hmmm...maybe some people don't live in an adsl, idsn or broadband enabled area yet....like me.

would you deny me the right to play because of my connection?

The right to play is not denied, just you have to suffer huge download times.

I would like to see off-line patching, but it maybe that they doing this would allow game hacking.

I feel for you, but its just the way it is atm :(

yeah, well thankfully im getting enabled next week, so these huge download times should be a thing of the past. I've never really suffered a great deal on my trusty old 56k though (just with, like you said, stupidly long patching times)...

i just wanted to make the point that just because people dont have Adsl, isn't just because they can't afford it. I've had alot of grievences in the past with broadband users who seem to belittle us Low Band users because of our connection speed...and i'm going to calmly ignore all the ppl who say we slow down online games by using dial-up.....that may be the case in FPS where speed is eveything, but with games like; rysom, guild wars, lineage 2, Final Fantasy etc, companies realise that there is still a huge user base on dial-up, and test their games thoughly enough to cater for all...

anyway...roll on next week! :)

Sorry, didn't want to insult you, what I mean if you want to play latest games you have to deal with huge downloads, which is almost impossible to do aquire through the modem connection. Well, it IS possible but ONLY if you are VERY VERY VERY patient.. :D
