I simply do not understand what happened. I am a very casual player who managed to get to level 50 by now and I have played since the beginning. Realistically that would mean I would reach lvl 250 in a lot more than the projected 6 months given that the time needed to level increases as we go along. I had fun exploring, managed to get a peak into the surrounding areas of matisland but died here often and hard.
Patch I came along
- Fighting became a one hit fest. Mobs hit hard and could not take much damage. No strategic approach was possible.
- Dodging was impossible and magic was resisted.
- Harvesting became very hard which also makes crafting your own armor impossible
- Mobs aggro from very far distances and respawn immediately resulting in blocked paths.
Result: It was absolutely unenjoyable. Playing reminded me of the stories from the Prime Roots, just that mobs below my level acted like kinchers.
In a frenzy the developers put out an emergency patch to remedy the situation.
- Fighting became even harder. Mobs deal the same damage as in Patch I but have a lot more HP.
- Harvesting is a joke now. It is possible to pull a number of mats from sources that were hard to pull before Patch I. If anybody was worried about too much leveling harvesting before, they should be running in circles now.
Result: In my opinion Ryzom is in a broken state now. Exploring the world became a state of running from mobs that are way below my level and do not give any XP when killed. It is basically impossible to work of DP other than harvesting.
I honestly think that the developmental team took a huge step back. Instead of actually implementing small changes (increase damage by 10%, increase XP needed for another level by 50%), everything was changed by a huge margin changing the game completely.
I understand that there are characters with levels 150+ out there that scared Nevrax but currently small players like me are the ones who lost. I am wondering why Nevrax did not consider other possible remedies for high level characters at this early stage of the game. If I am not able to enjoy a simple fight or seeing my new armor as something that I worked a reasonable amount of time for then I do not see a reason to continue playing.
My hopes are that the developers (and not the CSR or GM guys) will take a good look at the gameplay before and after the patch and remedy the situation. I personally did not see anything really broken before but a huge amount of things have been "fixed" to death.
Assessing the Damage
Re: Assessing the Damage
Let us not lose hope (talking to myself now too).
Some parts of patch 1 are TOTALLY out of keeping with what Nevrax/Ryzom has been doing. I am convinced that what needs fixing will be, what needs tweaking shall be, and we can go merrily onwards. The subsequent mini patch seems to have fixed a few things already ...in record time.

Re: Assessing the Damage
Speaking of harvesting, the XP is the same as after patch 1, the ONLY thing different is it is now easier to pull mats as it was pre patch 1. So harvesters are not going to be powerlevelling anytime soon since the XP is the SAME as it was after patch 1.parisg wrote: - Fighting became even harder. Re: Assessing the Damage
Harvest may or may not be a lot better, I don't know as I haven't had the time to do any today (115 lakeland). Personally I don't see what the big freaking deal is about a lot of people power leveling their "staring at little bars go down" skills. I harvest, it sucks. It's boring and dreadful. There is really nothing fun about it and the only reason I do it at all is because I need those materials to make stuff. Hell the "making stuff" is getting pretty old as well but mostly becuase of the gigantic drag that is harvesting.tleilaxu wrote:Speaking of harvesting, the XP is the same as after patch 1, the ONLY thing different is it is now easier to pull mats as it was pre patch 1. Anyway:
1 - Monsters are still screwed up. Now they have more HP and do the same damage as they did post Patch - 1.
2 - Magic resistances are still screwed up, I can't solo my damn mage anymore because everything and his brother resists my defensive magic spells.
Seriously, the devs/designers went way overboard with this patch and the >only< thing they fixed was harvesting. Everything else is still completely buggered. Hell the only thing that >really< needed a major nerf was the effectiveness of the damn Blind spell. Instead everything in the game practically got a gigantic nerf phallus shoved up its arse.
Thanks Nevrax! Oh and I noticed you jerks charged me even though I canceled my account last week. I was gunna let it slide coz I was gunna continue to play the game, but now I'm gunna send a nastygram to your billing department.
Re: Assessing the Damage
I haven't logged on my main, but logged on my alt's alt. So far...I am almost pleased with foraging. I was TOO scared to even approach a yubo in noobie land.
I will test the mobs on my main, afterall, three death points, well at least...I can harvest it off...now.
EQ had MANY patches like this one, the YANKED the rug out from under the best in game, but even months later...they refused to put the rug back.
Ryzom hasn't appologized, but at least we have a rug again.
They listened, the responded...like I thought...within 24 hours.
I only hope that those that ran for the door stayed at the door long enough to see that the fire is almost out.
