I'd like to apply for the ATS

Post by jdexter1 »

Okay, I'd like to put in an application for the ATS. I did not pre-order this game because of the prior experience in pre-orders for MMORPG and lack of availability when you pre-order (I did that with CoH and ended up with the game later than the stores)

I don't understand the exclusivity of the ATS, but if you want to keep it closed, then I think it would be appropriate to open up applications for access.

I have a strong background in testing and would happily share my resume with the appropriate people. I have no interest in posting it publically since It really isn't anyone's but Nevrax's business and my own on my prior testing history.

It looks to me like ATS needs more than just pre-orders (not saying that they aren't good, just need more people)

I have the background and I have the passion, so how can I get access?

Especially after the outcry it should be obvious that lower level characters (casual gamers) need a chance to look at the changes and comment on it.

They should just do away with the ATS since no one in their right mind would put the main character they play on hold long enough to do anything useful there.
Just give us a buggy patch and be prepared to fix them bugs ASAP.
It would stop the mass exodus that happened yesterday if people understood that this is now and always will be a work in progress.
Limiting the people who can access the ATS was a death knell to start with.
I preordered SoR but was never able to access it as were some others I read about here.
If all the effort that went into the ATS was focused on THE GAME we would not be seeing these problems.

I resent your acting like this stuff wasn't found out on ATS and you could have saved us. I DID pre-order and FBT... I spent the time needed to get some info on the changes, problems and improvements on ATS.

I saw the serious problems and supplied many folks with what I saw both thru my forums ( http://ryzom.twazz.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=257 ) and here ( http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4663 ). I PM'd every GM I could asking to have them relook letting this patch go live until they had assessed certain things again (Maybe they WANTED things to be this way). I also volunteered to test anything they needed in the future to prevent things like this from being released and sent this info to the Themis group.

What Nevrax does with our recommendations (I have no reason to doubt the Themis folks did anything but attempt to represent us, YET !) it seems was to ignore it and follow a timeline they had published and didn't want to back out of... Bean counters and desk jockeys make those decisions. This patch is a result of the communities efforts early to let folks know the problems, not their discoveries after Patch 1 was released (As Cerest's post would have us believe).

It was a very bad decision to let Patch 1 go live with these issues that they knew about and the bad blood is already out there. This patch should have been a part of Patch 1... the damage is done, but don't think there are not folks that tried to stop this from going live without a relook. Obviously we were ignored...

Whoa, did you miss this line in my post?

Because I know how test servers work, believe me. Been there, done that for many games now.

More people means more feedback prior to the public executions.

And yes, I agree feedback does get ignored from the test servers in almost every game. More people=more voices=maybe that will change in this game.

No one dissed the ATS people in this thread other than it is apparent that more are needed.

Maybe I did misread it, I did alot to try and stop this and have it relooked and feel someone ignored me. Since it happened community wide I tend to believe it is a corperate thing. Our GM's and CSR team gain nothing by folks leaving as is happening, so they are our team even if it may seem something is broke somewhere. I have seen so many people leave since first OB, folks like me that saw a refreshing way of doing an MMORPG. Now I am seeing folks in release leaving as well and I am just not happy about it.

I am a little ticked also that the Community Liason (In our case Cerest, but surely all of them had to fall on their swords similarly) insinuated they noticed this after Patch 1 hit the streets.

As you can see by the dates on my observations and others from ATS this is absolutely not true, if it is then they might as well close ATS to us all as our feedback is obviously unreliable and not worthy of consideration.

Our guild lost 3 more folks overnight, and an after the thought fix to something that was known may have prevented it... I am not a happy camper as we are losing parts of the community, we are most effected by those closest to us... but we all suffer over bad decisions like this.

The posts look scripted to me ... Might as well have a "I am bob and I approve of this message" tagged on to the end..

Mostlikely someone at Nev sent a message to the CLs saying "post this"

Not an unlikely case. I've certainly been handed statements to make at corporate jobs of my own before. Further backed by the fact that you'll see the same statement on each community server.. run by different companies.

I do think more people should be allowed onto the test server. Perhaps those with a good bug hunting history on live. As it is now the hard work of test server volunteers seems useless because of lack of action on it.

Many kudos to Doubletap. He's been at testing foraging longer and harder than me (though I lag behind him in getting access to each of the closed test servers :p ). Of course every person has their own opinion, but I think almost all of us can agree that foraging would be much better of if his reports were made better use of. Good job DT and I hope someday they'll listen to us.

Group hug? (come on Cerest, even you ;) )

I asked for the same thing. It's great for pre-order customers to get access to the beta, free items, reserved names, coffee-table books, whatever you want. But it makes no sense for the test server to be exclusive to pre-orders.

By their nature, many pre-order customers want an early start on day One, and they want to powerlevel ASAP. These tendencies make them perhaps the worst people to test the game, since they will often be too busy to go near the test server.

Testers are a unique breed, and volunteers should be encouraged. If Nevrax hopes to turn this game into something great, they need to recruit more testers and listen to them.

I should add, I was shouted down by certain folks for complaining about this policy, and I cancelled the game today. I wish you luck with your quest to become a tester.
