Wow..

I'm posting this after the mention of re-tweaking the combat system. But I wonder what might have driven them to raise the difficulty so drastically to begin with? I've been reading some really insane anecdotes of people's experiences since Patch 1 and it's making me nervous about even leaving the city gates! lol. Seriously.. Scowling Gingos were about all the challenge I could safely handle at Magic 38 - and then, only one at a time. Any thing else comes to visit and I have to high-tail it back to the protection of the guards. This has been becoming a bit discouraging as it is. But from the sound of it, fighting anything more than a suckling yubo could be hazardous to your health. And.. if it's being toned down to a more reasonable level.. I wonder what more reasonable is going to be? I guess it's wait and see...

I do have another question.. I was of the understanding that the game would have music implemented? It's only present during the login screen? That seems kinda odd to me, as the login screens are where you spend the least amount of time.. What about in-game? I know it's not as drastic as the difficulty hike.. but still.. I was expecting at least some nice background music whilst running from those Scowling Gingos :-)

There are theme MP3 files available for download from Ryzom.com, you can play these in your in game MP3 player. However if you use a hardware enabled mouse like I do launching the MP3 player tends to disappear my mouse. So still using winamp here.

Cancelled.

Not just because this patch is horrible, but because of the reasoning behind the patch: Nevrax made the game more difficult so that people wouldn't progress faster than their projected story timeline allowed. Yes, they'll be patching the patch, but I still feel like the players are the Dev's adversaries - messing up their cunning 8 year plan by playing too much and leveling too fast. So they slow us down with outrageous speed bumps.

I may check back in a few months to see if the situation has improved, but right now... Ryzom is more annoying and frustrating than fun, and I don't pay to be annoyed. This is supposed to be a game, not an endurance contest.

Bravo! I think we have cut to the heart of the matter. How nervax management intends to run Ryzom.

What I really wonder is if the devs even play this game. Any die hard fan of their own game would try out several things to see if things are the way it should be. They should have noticed a problem the minute they go out of town and get killed by something way way way under their level. The fact that this patch even came out in this state suggest several things.

1. Whoever made the changes have no clue on solo and group fighting dynamics nor do they know the difference between risk vs reward.

2. Even after this monstrosity came out, there should be a quality assurance group to make sure this patch wasn't going to break the game.

3. After seeing the feed back before the patch came out they need to seriously go back and reevaluate their changes. I mean there is a reason why so many people complained right?

Whatever happened they still pushed out this horrible patch. So typical of a coporate enviornment where you push out crap to your customers whether or not it would be good for them. This totally destroyed my confidence in their abilities. Cerest and others have been exemporary in their efforts with the player base. However if the underlying devs can't even grasp the simple mechanics of their game then there really is no hope for this game.

The best customer support is still not enough to save a lousy product.

:scratching head:

So... we have to load a built-in MP3 player and manually select and play the music? Now that is the oddest implementation of a sound-track I've ever heard of..

But... okaaaayyy... lol

From all reports, barely anybody was on the test server. For some idiotic reason, Nevrax said ATS access was for pre-order customers only. Nevermind that most people pre-ordered to get a head start, and were too busy heading to level 150 to test anything.

Meanwhile those of us with actual testing experience were locked out of the test server. Cancelled on principle, before my free month even runs out.

This is no way to develop and run a game.

What are you talking about pre-orders had a head start? There was a complete wipe when the game went live and everyone had to start a new character.

You really should get over the fact you can't use the test server. If you can't then you really should just leave the game.

loptard wrote:Just a question i would like to see. How many people are thinking about canceling ryzom now? After seeing and playing the new patch? I tried soloing for 10 mins and racked up 80k in debt preety quickly. Not sure how disapointed everyone else is. Just liek to geta ruff idea of how many people are going to quit. Post a simple yes and no below and lets count hmm.
Well I like to solo, this game is imposible now. Everything I enjoyed is gone. I log on , I get a headache after 5 mins. I joined WOW beta just to get away from Ryzom, and at least I can lvl, and solo, and do interesting missions, without blowing up or getting kiled by a gingo after 5 mins of play. There is enough frustration in RL ,I dont need it when I try to relax. This is supposed to be fun after all. I dont know if I even care about a mini-patch ,the mere thought of possibly having to redo all the stanzas again makes me ill. I loved Ryzom I'm so sorry they ruined it.

Yea I agree, implementation could be better. But I usually turn off in game music in these things anyway. Soundtracks get stale real quick.

I will say however the spell sound effects are very cool. Madness & Lightning my favourites so far.
