I agree with the midget, and like the changes the games was soooo boring before. Now at least there's a challenge. if it wasn't for these changes we'd probably all be max level within 2 months and done with the game. I was going to leave before they made these changes since I was sooo bored, and now I'll stay.
The only thing I don't like is the harvesting. But they're addressing that. I've had no trouble levelling melee (SOLO) magic (SOLO) or crafting since this patch. (with the exception of the cc bug, but that's a bug and will be addressed.)

Sure it's a huge shock to all those that got comfortable with the whole power leveling grind, but hey if you don't like it leave, I'm sure many who actually like a challenge will come and play.

Well that's all your going to hear from me about this. Since I'll be in game actually having a good time for once.

Troll on.

I agree with the top 2 posts totally.

I guess its hard for some to see the big picture when your in the middle of a dummy spit :) Im sure that'll pass soonish.

On a side note, I made 1 level today as a melee with no armour on in a few hours. Soloing is still easily possible, just that you have to choose your targets just below your level, and don't expect to get 3k a kill and 10 levels a day killing stuff that was never intended to be soloable for a pc level vs mob level.

Do you honestly want to play a game where everyone is level 250 in 3 months of game release ? Thats the way it was heading. I'll still be able to get 250 easy within a year. And whats so wrong with that ? Go play EQ or DAoC or any other major MMORPG if you think this is agonizingly slow.

I hope ppl don't take my posts personally as some of you seem to. Bluntness <> flaming

Logged on a newbie land character today and fought kippes for a while. Char is level 29 fight, 26 offensive magic, 22 defensive magic, with 92 damage long sword and choice light armour, HP 550. Weeny kipees are about level 21. Results as follows:

1. Kipees are approx 75% resistant to all forms of magic.
2. My damage, with damage add, averaged about 70 per hit, with a hit rate of about 2/3 swings. Takes approx 10 hits to kill a kipee, or 12 acid 2 spells.
3. Kipee damage was 84 every hit, with a hit rate of about 4/5.
4. When in melee, kipees interrupt spell casting almost 100% of the time.
5. Kipees travel about 3 times the speed of players and, due to ongoing lag issues, virtually 'teleport' at will.
6. Kipees now win about half the time, dp per death about 5000.
7. Fun factor non-existent. This is not a challenge; rather, it is an exercise in masochism.

Is this just bad luck? I think not ... in computer games there is no such thing as bad luck, just good (or bad) programming.

My fun meter is just about pegged.

stealing this from another thread i posted it on hehe

used to pull 3 q90-100 mats per dig, with no risk whatsoever, now i pull 1-2 mats of 70-100 with alot of risks and less xp. seems much more realistic that it be dangerous, not simple to pull things from a living ground that does not like being disturbed. seems inline with the story

used to be able to kill beast 'x' easily for good xp. this is the same beast 'x' that is partly responsible for the decimation of 4 societies of homins 3 generations ago. and yet, i could kill it alone, with ease. now, it slaughters me alone, hmm, that seems more inline with the storyline too

used to have to sit and refill sap too much, personlly i though the magic end was a bit weak. well, theyve revamped it completely, things are cheaper, sap goes further, regens are bigger, etc etc etc. magic works pretty well now, relative to melee. not too shabbadoo methinks

is it a perfect patch? no.
is there such a thing ? no
will the game forever be etched in stone now , not ever changing from this point on? um, no
is it harder than it was ? hell yes
is that what the devs intended? i think so

remember the storyline, and yeah yeah, i know there is no content. i mean the backstory. the beasts are mean mean mean, the planet is living, we barely survived the last onslaught from the beasts.

now remember this is still a work in progress, they surely have a limited staff to make it economically viable to even pursue this thing, and they are trying, and do want their game to be the best out there. it will take time. to those that say, it should still be in beta- my guess is that like most smaller companies they ran out of funding/resources, and had to go gold to get revenue flowing to continue working the project. this is not uncommon in the mmorpg dept, save for companies like sony/blizzard/ms who have capital enough to support a longer development process.

I have to agree with gatineau. I tried to keep an open mind about it. I was actually looking forward to the patch, but after playing for about 6 hours last night, I can't see how this is any fun. Mobs I used kill solo are now difficult for me in a group of 4, and they yield about 19 xps each. Plus, the same old bugs are still there, and worse than ever. For example, if I need to run from a creature by jumping into the water, I get blocked by an invisible barrier and have to sit/stand to disengage, only now with the added animations for sitting/standing, this takes forever and I'm dead before I can get away. It also seems like the creatures have farther reach out into the water now.

From my exerience, the combat adjustment with Patch 1 won't destroy soloing - it will encourage it. If I want to get decent xps, I have to go out by myself and find a creature that's an absolute perfect fit for me. If it's a notch or two below me, I won't get anything. If it's a match for my level, I die about half the time. I've found that if I find the perfect creature, I can systematically slaughter every one of them on an island and get around 1000 xps apiece.

Fighting with a group, though, you're never going to find that "perfect" creature. If the creature is worth any xps to the group (100 or more), it also has the ability to TPK the group. And fighting mobs for 10-100 xps at a whack with a TPK about ever 4 monsters is not my idea of fun, especially when it takes about 30000 xps for me to raise a level.

I think, if anything, this patch ruins the group hunting. Maybe I just don't know how to group hunt effectively, but if that's the case, then total newbies will be even more confused why they can't get decent xps for mobs that can wipe out their hunting party.

I like the other changes. The new merchant system is awesome! The skill balancing adjustments were right on. It's just unfortunate that combat is no longer fun. Oh, well, like kkuryllo said, if you don't like it leave, right?

*sigh* ok.

Hi Melli,
I'm curious. Why are you so positive that the devs know what they are doing? This game *was* in beta before retail, and furthermore it was in beta for a very long time. I don't think the game magically became easier when it was released, so obviously the devs should have been able to see the issues with advancement beforehand. This patch makes me ask the same question I asked when I first got the game and it was unplayably glitchy: What the HELL was beta for?

I'm not concerned so much about the difficulty increase (though it IS absolutely preposterous; get in game and you'll see we aren't exaggerating). What concerns me is the way it seems to epitomize the lack of foresight that Ryzom's devs seem to be showing.

Then again, maybe they're all just playing WoW and don't give a hoot. :P

EDIT: Jharker, I think you should still be able to use f10 or f6 to disengage and get into the water. Unless they changed that.

again, the devs have a long term goal, i believe they have an 8 year plan if i read right. to all you folks who are level 150-250 in a skill in 2 months, do you not see the problem here? step back, think about it, and you may just see that this HAD to be done
Are you implying that every time some players progress faster than the Devs projected during game design, and it plays havock with their pre-planned storyline ... they're going to bring the game to a grinding halt so that leveling can be slowed? ??? And that's acceptable to you? And we have 8 YEARS of this to look forward to. Well, actually, YOU have 8 years of this to look forward to. pfft.

Well they did say they expect the "average" MMo player who spends 3 hours a day online to completely master a skill upto 250 in 3 months. Perhaps they weren'y prepared for the attack of the fanatical, no-social-life fanboys like myslef. Only difference between those that are already bordering 200 and myself is I don't group and I tried all the skills.

Meestor, You stated you created a new char and everything isn't as hard as everyone claims... Have you forgotten how easy it is in newbie lands? Have you tried bringing that char to mainland? In Matis, just outside of ykanis there are wandering groups of ragus and gingos. They are fairly close to the newbie areas and if just ONE of those dogs attack you, you will die. The lowest level gingos are hitting for between 100-200 dmg. How much does the average newbie fresh from newbie lands have? Are you telling me that everyone should just huddle in town now? I don't see how a new player would have any enjoyable experience from this.
