After several hours of hunting , testing spells, testing mob dmg, etc etc my opinion is; that patch 1 has alot of good stuff more than it has bad actually, with some fixes and balancing, it wouldnt be so bad it would actually be awesome. Its just that its so extreme right now, people die in 1-3 hits, foraging is quite tough, some skill trees are still broken and of course the lack of content. Alot of people are on the edge of just giving up cause they are unable to play char fully and enjoy the game, cause this patch removed all their skills and tactics, cause if you get unlucky once its certain death now. Hell I even died to a scowling ragus cause I forgot my sword and couldnt make it to town 100m away before it ate me.
.
The following few lines are the late night experiences....
The high damage from monsters right now is bad, one monster isnt a problem but how often do you hunt and suddenly you get an add, this could be either a spawn or a roaming monster. We this happened a few times and wiped (unless we fled into the water) the whole group cause it ate a healer or two and there was noone to heal the tank who was busy with the current mob that was hitting for 600+. So what I suggest as a good way to balance this could be by making dodge work again, make heavy armor absorb alot more damage, not higher protection factor but the actual damage absorb so melees actually get to tank not much difference if you take 900 dmg from a dangerous clopper or you take 800..
Make melees capable of taking a beating and not die in 2 hits wether their naked or in q100 heavy. I know the high damage was made to make people group up more and to slow down the powerlevelling but as it is now, its alot of dp and chain ressing cause 1-3 hits means death, and noone enjoys that. I wouldnt mind if the xp on the mobs were lowered as long the damage would be as well, I would still enjoy being able to kill monsters and still get xp instead of dying to something that wont even give me xp as the current situation is. And the monster accuracy is incredible, a suckling yobo actually hit me on 80% of its attacks (lvl 159 as highest level)
After hours trying fear, rooting, sleeping different monsters and all we got was resists on those spells, even the spell level was 100 vs the monster that was lvl 92 (dangerous clopper), lvl 82 Gluttonus Capryni, lvl 87 dangerous ragus and getting resisting in more than 75% of the spells we realized that resists on monsters might need to be looked into else there will be melee, healer and ele mage and no off aff or def aff due to the ammount of resists they get.
As for foraging I wont go into this cause theres a patch (very needed one) under construction already.
Please just bring in some content soon

Patch 1 - Something Wicked this way comes
Re: Patch 1 - Something Wicked this way comes
For those of you who are claiming that people are levelling to quickly (there are LOTS of skill lines that they can work with, even at the old rate, it would take months to max 1), exactly HOW much too fast was it? Was it twice too fast, three times too fast? They over nerfed it...
Why are computer people so bad at math? Why not just double or triple the amount of skill points you need to level? Super tough?
No. They made the game unfun. I am a lvl 92 healer, and I usually grouped with a 145 tank. The things we were killing two at a time last night (ragus in RW) for 800 sp each per kill, now kill the tank in two hits... before I can even get of a single healing spell, and then they turn around and kill me before my animation finishes.
Harvesting is bad too. In the last few weeks, they have lowered the quality increase from material specialization, which was used by many to hyper-level, then they added a TON more nerfs, lower prices from vendors, increased failure rate, more focus required to do the same thing (to create downtime between harvests), no cycling of modes so the sources play out earlier or you have to team or heal the nodes yourself for less quality and yield, slowed the quality progression (mining in PR for q130 mats, I was only able to get a maximum quality of 81 after 50 attempts because the quality didnt progress before my time (maxxed) could run out. Surrounded sources with mobs that can now one hit you that were no more than a nuisance before, made it so you could not escape the poison... I am sure I am missing some, but they took all of the ideas to slow down progression and seemingly said... "What the hell, let's do them ALL".
And they still didn't put the promised q100 mats in Tryker mainland. That has been a bug and they have been promising a fix since early beta. Yeah, they gave me an MP3 player, they took away my game.
I am so frustrated right now. (could you tell?)

Re: Patch 1 - Something Wicked this way comes
Another thing to mention with this patch is (even though its not the end of the world) that for new players in their early skill levels, and there are quite a few actually, is that it will take them month and months of boring and frustrating gametime to reach 100+ in some skill chains were many ppl already are.
Were it earlier could be done in a few weeks. Unfair? not really but atleast for me as it stands right now im not interested in putting my money and time into a game thats not even fun any more. The same thing that made me quit FFXI has happened here when i finally thought i had find a game that you could choose if you wanted to solo or group. I like to group also but for a game to force me to do it to be able to progress, no thanks.
Over the last weeks i have noticed in the forums that generally everyone was quite happy about the game, no really negative posts, more some balance this skill threads. And there has been a few patches already put in with no negative reactions. That is a good sign for new players when they find a forum like that. Now after the patch its just like the rest of it with the majority hating the game right off. For a reaction like that the devs cant have done a good thing when changing a game so drasticly that only a few already higher lvl ppl enjoy it. I have yet to see a post from a newb player liking this change, might be easy to say when your already 100+ in several skills that this is good, more challenging, stay tough, sure, remake a character and try to level him/her up again and see how fun it is now.
just my 2 cents, not the end of the wolrd for me since there are quite a few other new games around the corner to try out but its a shame cause so many ppl seemed to love it before patch with the current gameplay.
Well, good luck to the ones who stays, we all have different aspects of what fun and challenge is.

Re: Patch 1 - Something Wicked this way comes
hmmm after playing a bit longer and talking to some people in other areas, I'd like to change my stance from 'I think its great' to 'I think some bits of it are great'
looks like they've nerfed crafting horrendously re mats and mission rewards. Mission rewards apparently pay about 20% of what they did - which is ridiculous. Better option would have been to restrict the respawn time for them - change it to 24 hours rather than 2 hours.
foraging looks fine as long as you are working in tandem with someone else and take turns, altho its definitely harder now.
magic seems ok but I don't have much experience.
melee seems ok and actually a big improvement.
the biggest difference is that it looks like its impossible to solo effectively - xp doesn't seem realistic for the danger posed by creatures, and this is particularly evident when soloing. This doesn't effect me very much - hence my earlier posts - as I rarely solo.
like I've said tho I haven't spent enough time in this to really appreciate the full extent of the changes.

Re: Patch 1 - Something Wicked this way comes
Having played a little longer I think it's fair for me to say that things are a bit out of whack right now. However I do like where this is going. Before, combat and foraging actions were mostly dull afk affairs for me. Now, I actually have to pay attention to what I'm doing. Getting caught on the hop by an aggressor is potentially fatal, and care is needed if you're going to be extracting these resources without severely injuring yourself. Not before, when you could just leave the thing running after getting your mode 1, or double-tapping your 'increase damage' attack while watching TV...
So, I'm actually feeling positive about all this. We know harvesting changes are coming, and combat will probably get looked at soon after so soon I could be enjoying a faster-paced, more involving game than the one I've been playing since April.
But I guess that doesn't change the issue that this should have been thrashed out before the retail release, not nearly 2 months in
