Lately ive been thinking, the only difference right now between mage pants and regular pants is the look, what if the mage pants boosted the mage skills (much like staves/gloves do now.) but to a lesser extent...maybe even lower the boosts from the mage skills so they can work together...like have it so max on gloves are 50% bonuses and the same with the pants. or split it 75/25 or 60/40...whatever...but anywya thought this would give mage pants a meaning other than for look.
btw of course mage pants would take a number of amber to make because of this...
Anyway thought id bring up something constructive instead of pro/con the current patch (no bashes against anyone else intended)

i think a whole mage line of garbs would be cool. i am hoping they plan to add armor variants at some point. its not really needed at all but something to think about for later.
with the mage armor group. i would say perhaps a small boost to actual spell power like you said but i would think more of boosts along the lines of successful casting/casting time. as in the mage clothing allows for less confined movement allowing for more precise casting.
i would also like ot see headgear for all armor levels. hats and things that add to the outfit but don't cover the entire head.
