More Router Woe

Post by sysent »

My router a Netgear DG834GT has just died. It worked with everything out of the box. My new router a Netgear DGN1000 will not work with Ryzom, I have tried it with all incoming and outgoing ports open, turned off the firewall, set my PC up in the DMZ all to no avail. If I plug in an old DG834 all works again.

The game loads to the character selection screen, the when a character is selected goes to a black screen.

Eh? There is nothing wrong with the network card, it is the new router that is not connecting. What ports are used by the launcher when it it leaving the character selection screen?

Not sure if it's the same issue but I recently had trouble upgrading from the same model of Netgear modem. Same thing, I could plug in an old modem of the same model and all was well, but plug in anything new and I couldn't stay connected. But, in talking to Asus, the manufacturer of my new modem, he did find a solution for me.

It seems some modems leave information in some sort of cue, he called it a "thumbprint" which is used by some new modems to help their autosetup. The fix was to enter administration tab for the new modem, by accessing the relevant IP address. Somewhere there you should find a button for "Restore to Factory Defaults" or similar. Hit that button then go through the setup of the modem again. This apparently removes that 'thumbprint'

Took me weeks to find this solution and pure luck that the help desk guy I got actually knew both my ISP and Netgear modem well. I hope that offers some sort of help.

I gave up and bought another DG834G which works perfectly out of the box. The DGN1000 is going to be used for target practice.
