I don't understand your problem with the inventory, and would be glad if you could get more into detail. I know that I use the inventory in an icon only mode, and that that works very fine to me. Sure there are a myriad an items a character may end dealing with, but its less confusing as it appears on the first look.

I remember that there was a bug that may let you end too far from a raw material deposit, but I thought that was fixed a long time ago. Usually a click on the source and the activation of an extraction action should let your character move to the correct distance to extract the materials.

You can enable chat bubbles in the System Settings, and then you see chat bubbles for every conversation of each channel you are listening too. This may be tied to your settings for the USER chat tab, I am not sure about this point.

I have to agree in this point, there are no persistant chat logs with the mission. But some of the newer missions do have better texts which are part of the mission log.
