Alt-Tab didn't seem to work unless I already had another window open in the background.

That´s Windows for you.
But you can workaround that, by simply playing in "windowed mode", with resolution set to that of your screen. Works like a charm.

Alternatively you can press the Windows key to open the Start menu, or open the Task Manager window with CTRL+ALT+DEL.

P.S.: Guys, this can't be pinned on Windows unfortunately. Most games respond to ALT+TAB by being minimized when there is no other app to switch to.

Not sure why it doesn't work for you.

I remember in the past not working but, it's long time now I can alt-tab without having any other window opened. Just need the alt key well pressed before the tab. I use Win XP.
