Roleplayers roll-call

Post by katriell »

Now that innocent bystanders have learned the difference between "role" and "roll" (just kidding, mostly)... :p

I'd like to know how many roleplayers are currently active in Ryzom. If you're not active but increased RP activity in-game would bring you back, your vote is equally interesting.

Feel free to elaborate on your vote in a reply, discuss the general topic, etc.

For the purposes of this poll at least, here is some terminology:

"full-time definitive"
Your default mode of chatting is In-Character and you annotate Out-Of-Character messages with parentheses or brackets. When around non-roleplayers you might default to OOC, but during events or other RP you switch right back.

"potential or lapsed definitive"
You've roleplayed in text before—whether in Ryzom, in other MMOs, in a MUD, on a forum, et cetera. Or maybe you haven't but you would like to start doing so. You are anywhere from a little rusty to completely wet-behind-the-ears, but in either case you're willing to get (back) into Ryzom roleplaying.

"semi"
Your chat is usually Out-Of-Character and/or you tend to slide into character without notice during events and such. This option fits many Ryzom players to varying extents.

"passive"
You enjoy slipping into an RP-like mindset when playing the game, and by the same token you appreciate immersive elements (including roleplayers themselves), but you are almost never inclined to speak In-Character.

I'm not sure why I included the second two options when, as the title of this thread indicates, I'm only looking for the first two. Maybe just to keep people from misdirecting their vote.

Going to have to go with "lapsed". :) For almost a year now my main character has felt 'dead', in that while playing it's no longer in the back of my mind what she's doing, thinking, hoping or dreaming. She's just a gamepiece now, the poor thing.

And I no longer have the incentive to create a different character either. Over a year ago, I never got around to it, but I at least wanted to and had it on my mental 'to-do' list. :p

At some of the events it almost comes back yet, but generally the current world of Atys just doesn't feel alive enough anymore to play a role in, I'm afraid. :o

Definitely the first option. ;)

Although, on Leanon we RPers are a close knit bunch, who know each other pretty good.
Luckily most others are very tolerant of "us" and although the non-RPers are in the majority right now, RP is seldom seriously interrupted by OOC bubbles or other rude OOC-behavior.
I was pretty astounded to learn that the recent Frahar-Incident Event was solved diplomatically and not by just wiping them out.
Yay for Roleplayers! ^^

I hear stories about the roleplaying on Leanon that make me green with envy. :D

't is that I'm already entrenched in the Arispotle community and that really being involved (not just occasionally peeking in on an alt, which I might yet do) in two separate communities seems a bit much, but if I were picking a server for the first time under current circumstances, it sounds like I'd go for Leanon.

Just, don´t misinterpret us as "Hardcore" or something.
We do seem to have a pretty relaxed stance to RP mostly and true Hardcore-RPers that want to see each and everyone all the time in-Character will be disappointed.
Some of us are, some don´t. But when RP occurs we all are IC.

I'd prefer staying in character most of the time, but it's just plain hard to do on Arispotle. So I lapse.

My compromise is to generally avoid talking about "real" life, although it certainly comes up and I'm not pushy about it. But avoiding talk of game mechanics is nearly impossible. Except when I'm digging alone at 2am, and reading forums between nodes. :p
