Is this Forum dead??? No! Read this!

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

I still don't see why I should look at the 'new' forum.
  • You only see forums for your server
  • There aren't that much more posts there than here
  • There is no SSL encryption when I have to log in with my game password
  • It barely uses a 1/8th of my screen
To me it is just another place I don't bother to look at.

I Agree, but as you can see, most Players very obviously prefer the InGame Boards to these. :(

Simple.
Agreed, I´d definitely prefer the former.
But as you might remember, many of us voted for the InGame Boards becasue it was too much of a hassle to look here.
I´ve always asked myself what would come of this.
As we can see, at least no new "publicity", but well, it´s what the communities voted for and what they got.

In the last few month I´ve heard many possibly interested people say:
"The boards are dead, so why even bother with the game."

The desire for "convenience" in this case actually robed us as an international community of Ryzom players of a true and open public face.
But well, that´s what was voted for by most of the players.
Only very few of us regularly look here anymore, because most of the time there isn´t anything to look at anymore.

So, yes, we do seem to wanting to become a "small and closed community" even more than ever before.
This, or most people just don´t bother... *sigh*

With the present setup that's how it is, yes.

But it's not so simple because it doesn't have to be that way. There's absolutely no reason what so ever the in-game boards can't be made just as public as these ones. For the life of me I can't figure out why they weren't implemented just so.

Well, it's absolutely an easy task. All forum apps now allow to setup public and private sections, so I don't see any difficulty in having the actual external forum visible ingame with private sections.

Also, with the browser object Windows provides, it's pretty easy to add a built in browser in the game, eventually without the ability to write other links, so they could just open a browser window ingame with a fixed link, pointing to this forum.

Is this forum dead? Sure looks that way from where I'm sitting, even lurking isn't fun anymore and frankly I can't keep up with all these new forums and feedback thingies that keep cropping up.

K.I.S.S. me please and put all the stuff back where it belongs, which is here. And do it soon because right now this place feels like a bar after closing time....
