Camera issue.
Camera issue.
I have been having issues with my camera, as it has been buggy lately. I will sometimes turn too fast when running and my camera will skip(sort of lag) to wherever I was going but it will leave me viewing something that isnt where I was originally looking. Its horrible when I try and run and change my direction because ill go in some direction I dont want to go. I changed from openGL to Direct3D and it still is doing it... I have nvidia 9800 GTX+.
Re: Camera issue.
I am having the same problem.
edit:
do you have a specialist gaming mouse?
I have a Razer deathadder and turning down the polling rate (the number of times a second that the cursor is refreshed) seemed to work wonders. Mine was set to 1khz which is a bit excessive for Ryzom needs.
maybe one day I'll level guns and I'll need the 1khz polling rate for those Timari head shots

Re: Camera issue.
I'm glad someone posted this I'm struggling too, and (sorry I know everyone always says this ) Ryzom is the only game showing the problem. I use a Razer Copperhead, and have already reduced the polling rate - which is pretty annoying, since the polling rate is one of the main features of the mouse heh. I've already lowered the "rate" in Ryzom as low as it will go, and have tried various "acceleration" settings too (also ingame, I have no acceleration in Windows), and these changes do not remove the problem.
Could I ask you hawam/Sash - do you use both mouse buttons to move around the world and rotate the camera at the same time? I always tend to do this, and it seems to make the mouse turn problem worse. Here's something to try as an example:
Use the mouse buttons as normal, run around and try to look at the same time. If you get the "lag/twitching", then switch to walking/turning with the WASD or arrow keys, and use only the left button to rotate the camera. Does this remove the problem for you? It seems to for me, but is nowhere near as comfortable as using the LMB/RMB combo.
In my opinion, mouse control really needs an overhaul. Here are a few things I've noticed, that make the game very awkward for me to play.

- The cursor is still active when moving/looking with LMB+RMB. You can see mobs and NPCs being highlighted, and windows sometimes gain focus, breaking navigation completely. The cursor should be inactive when LMB+RMB navigating, not just hidden like it is now.
- The "turn left/strafe left" and "turn right/strafe right" keys completely reverse their actions when comparing navigation with KB and navigation with LMB+RMB. If I walk forward with W, turn left does indeed turn and strafe left does indeed strafe. Switching to LMB+RMB navigation and trying those same keys - turn left strafes instead, and strafe left turns instead. Wha??!!? This is confusing as hell, and I see no real purpose or reason for it.
- When using LMB/RMB navigation, Ryzom suffers horribly from "sticky mouse button" syndrome. The number of times I've released both buttons, and have either been stuck running forwards and/or stuck rotating the camera - well, I've lost count, and I've only been playing again for a week or so The mouse buttons are not being released, probably because of point 1 - the cursor is still active, it moves focus to a chat window or something, and the run/look function is stuck on. I've written code myself that behaved like this - it's a common problem when writing your own "mouse capture" style code, and it also easily fixable.

Re: Camera issue.
I normally use the keyboard for forwards and backwards running and the mouse to turn/strafe. If I need to look around as I run then I use the keyboard to turn as required.
I had to turn the polling rate down to 125hz to make a difference and the dpi is set to 500. all acceleration is turned off in the out of game settings. In game I didn't really do anything special except to make sure the mouse is on hardware mode.
I have had a little play with running with both mouse buttons and under my current settings I've not had any further issues.

Re: Camera issue.
OK, thanks for testing Sash Something still needs to be fixed within Ryzom to solve the other issues - you shouldn't need to drop the settings on a laser mouse to cure these problems. With your current settings, you're running at speeds a standard PS/2 mouse would poll/scan at - not good at all

Re: Camera issue.
Hmm, this problem may be at it's worst afte minimising Ryzom, and then switching back to it. I'm going to have to do more testing really. I didn't have too many problems last night, but after jumping out to windows for 30 secs or so, and returning to the game - the mouse control definitely felt laggier. It wasn't bad enough to turn a couple of thousand degrees in one hit, however - ah well, I'll try and narrow this down a bit more and see if I can get closer to a reason for the behaviour
