Seem to me, that you like cats but not the pvp over outposts, maybe you should stop using cats.

Yes, I do. However, I want those restricted areas to be new areas. I think one of the biggest plot flaws in the current design is how meaningless the factions actually are. I think having zones that were restricted by faction and or Civ would be a natural progression. The powers wanting to foster growth amongst their followers, opening ports to resources that would allow for a unique advantage over their competition.

The Kami temple near Zora talks about what happens when the final transformation from Kami follower to becoming an actual Kami occurs, guess what, it does not happen on Atys, but on another planet after reincarnation. So I do think cult aligned zones were/are part of the outline of development.

If it were me, I would develop a system where the players can contribute resources, dapp, cats or something to create ports to new areas that are aligned to a specific factional subset (Kami-Zora, Kara-Fyros etc..). Here is where the neutrals would certainly have a giant plot opening to create their faction. Tryton does have rainbow gate tech, although since they would not want to be squashed by the higher powers, their zones may be a bit more hostile and not quite as abundantly resourced as the others, but the players could overtime have a mechanic to fix that.

Imagine pioneering zones to build new cities safe from the enemies of the state. Overtime these zones may become found by the Kitin, tribal invaders, goo, another faction or nation. Their could be gateways to new areas, new frontiers. Explores get to explore, builders get to build, PvE gets to grind and PvP is fighting for a cause. I think it is possible that a player could do all or none of these actions depending on how they wanted to play on any given day. Just go to the appropriate zone. Yet no matter what actions you choose you are contributing to the growth of a culture, Kami, Kara, Neutral, Tryker, Fyros...

This vision is dependent on a functional ring system that developers/players can use to create new areas. It is dependent on growth. If their is to be no new growth, I would recommend tableing the factional conflict all together and focusing on the Kitin or some NPC threat.

I wonder where all you pvp fanatics would be though without crafters to keep them in equipment.

Bit late for that. That happened the day the temples started when the role player GM asked all the tryker to follow him to the Karavan temple which we all did eager to see the new game content, which was followed by loads of Trykers getting instagibbed by guards. Which was in turn followed by a wall of profanity in chat. And a GM thinking.. oops.

The game set its path good or bad, has no choice to stick to it. In this case, the two factions.

I would set the mechanics as such that access could not be denied by other players. However, some subsets would have more access to more things then others, while the smaller group would have higher individual rewards and greater recognition from the powers that be. One could be an incredibly devout and effective follower and never raise arms against another player. Plus there would be a trickle down of rewards as the nations start to get factional rewards that would then be spread to citizens who may not share the same religion.

What I am very certain of, is the present use of the factions is not increasing the subscription rate of players. Do away with it or develop it. The status quo is a failing proposition.
