Actually, this brings me to a point; the events announcements could use some work.

Some events seemed to be only announced on http://atys.ryzom.com/projects/puben/boards while others were only announced on these forums, and yet others were only announced ingame.

Normally I may like the idea of reaching different groups of people with different kinds of events, but as small as the population is, we need as many people as possible to know about these events, and people shouldn't have to check 3 different places to know if there's going to be an event.

I am glad to hear this. I think the factions are the core ingredient in the lore and themes of Atys. One of the most attractive aspects of the game to me is creating a character that has a belief system that can be rooted in the ideology of either the Kami or the Karavan.

There is depth in their conflict, that goes beyond the normal range of other faction based games. On Atys an entire world was designed around conflicting principles. Somewhat like the movie Princess Monomoke the sides are destined to fight, there can not be balance, there must be conflict.

It is a shame that in a history and culture full of examples of divine interaction, the gods are silent to the point of being pointless. To borrow a phrase from Martin Luther, the people of Atys "should fear, love and trust" their gods. I'd say even the most devout role-player has been 0 for 3 for most (if not all) of the games history. It is perhaps my biggest disappointment in the development of the game that while pretty much every lore story is centered in the development of creating a mythos based on either faction, new in-game development has ignored, and even at times conflicted with what was established dogma.

So anyway, thanks for planning on bringing back some much needed depth. I look forward to it.

That is a very probable reality of what would happen if things stay the same. However, if this is to be a story based game, and the existing lore is part of that story, conflict is inevitable. That does not mean it has to be never ending, it can be resolved, it can be ended. Conflict, resolution...followed by a new conflict, so on and so on, that is pretty much how every saga goes. Enemies become friends, friends enemies, truths revealed, falsehoods discovered, is pretty much part of any serial plot line.

I am not advocating eternal conflict, I would prefer resolution. A purpose to base my character actions on, other then controlling a limited resource. I am not of fan of having to take from someone else to get something, I and I think most others prefer a mechanic where they could build it on their own.

There are many visions of how Atys should be, and there are many interpretations of the lore. I have quite a few of them myself, but I really don't care as much about them being correct as I care about the developers having a clear vision and the courage and ability to see it through.

I'm very interested in seeing more story, including conflict.

With that said, I'm not interested in game mechanics forcing or de facto forcing me to pick a side in any particular conflict, be it faction, civilization, city, guild, or personal level conflict. I'm ok with picking a side when it coincides with my character's feelings and beliefs, and is sensible in lore terms. For example, I don't mind that I have to choose a faction to use some of their teleporters, even though (in character) I think both the Karavan and the Kami are lying to us and using us as pawns in some game we don't yet understand. In character (as Sasi), I nominally side with the Karavan in order to use their technology, rationalizing it as a fair turnabout since I believe they are using homins for their own ends.

I also have some neutral alts, and will definitely be wary of anything that simply excludes them, unless there are very good story reasons. In any conflict, there are people who take no side or are ambivalent to some degree about the side they ended up on. The story should take that into account.

Well we already are forced to join a Faction or Civ for benefits (which so far i've ignored due to some game flaws imo), so gripping about forced sides is kinda mute. Neutrals do have some abilities but extremely limited and very tied into the two factions. I would like to see more choices in the Civ realm, more room for Tryker kamists, or 'Maduk forbid' Zorai Karavan.. choices make a game interesting, limiting players too much by their choices becomes anti-productive. (maybe make karavane zorai banished from Zorai capitol services? ideas ideas)

I also think making the Factions and Civilizations more responsive to one anothers actions is a a great idea. The Kami and Karavan have their thing going, but how do the Civs react? Lets not force the Civs to blindly folllow either one.

While we're at making suggestions, Please remove the top restrictions for fame for Neutrals and make some dapper thing there too :)

jwenting wrote:So you want to make it where you cannot go places depending on whether you're kara or kami, and that the current ballance of power between the two determines what those places are?

That would mean even more conflict, even more focus on pvp and bring in a lot of agro dragging and griefing in order to make the other side "loose control" over places.
How'd you like having no access whatsoever to 250 zones for example just because the other side owns all ops in them (which could well result from such a decision, given the current ballance between kara and kami)?
Such a situation could well become permanent too, as one side would control all places where people can gather materials for high quality equipment and practice their high level skills.

Do you ever stop moaning about this game? :p
Seem to me, that your like cats but not the conflict over outposts, maybe you should stop using cats.
Btw which side is your fabulous guild supporting this year? iirc they were kamivans last time I played :p
