Idea for a PvP based content addition.

I had an idea that came to me tonight that I had to share because I think Ryzom would be the perfect game to have this idea. I have no idea if any other game has this or not but here goes....

Ok, this could be brought on by an event or something, it would have to rely on a story line addition/evolution as well as a race addition.

We have for some time had slightly boring if not stale PvP. Along with that we have had very willnilly (carefree) use of cats. This could be something to add some spice to both.

I propose a new race that relies on only PvP to level/skill up. But a specific ruleset in order to enter combat for this PvP xp.

Basically a race that is friendly to all life in the PVE world and cannot attack or be attacked by it. Nor be able to gain benefit (for balance purposes) from anything gained by the life in Atys (minus the select PvP combat they can engage).

Now for the weird part that obviously could be criticized or added to, tweaked etc....

Have a new PvP flagging system that is only for interaction with this race. The proposed ways to get this flag on a normal homin is to use cats, attack a member of this race, or harvest Prime roots.

Now for this race to be "flagged" the only ways they can get flagged is to hunt down flagged homins and attack or be attacked.

I also think for reasons of trying to avoid abuse by high levels, there should be a "level range limitation" This would be a hard thing to figure out I suspect due to the vastly diverse skillset, but I think the limit could be based on the player's top combat skill (either ele or melee). But for more fun, for a member of this new race they can attack anyone higher than them past this limit if they feel they can win (ie. prime roots harvesters). Then the normal homin that is attacked by this lower level than the limit allows, can attack back in "self defense"

I do not propose this race lightly, I do understand that people that would want an "easy" playtime with this race would not like it. But I intend this idea for those who are bored of current PvP, sick of the overuse of cats without consequence, and want a serious challenge in their game.

More ideas or tweaks to come as I and others think of them, hope some or many of you in forumland like this idea. But I hope the devs/current game owner likes this idea as well.

EDIT:

A part I forgot to add/think about. Gear, weapons and armor. Maybe they could attack and "steal" gear off npc bandits and other npc types except guards? But make it so no XP can be gained by this attack action and you can't loot the same thing you already possess (make it not show in loot window or just not lootable if already in possession of such drop(s).

This idea could also add a level of competition for kills between them and homins doing missions.

It's a nice idea. LOTRO's monster-play comes to mind. The new race could actually be some type of kitin.

If I know anything about Ryzom's community it is that the majority dislikes all forms of forced PVP. I don't think getting flagged for using cats or digging in PR is a good idea. I understand that you want to add consequence to such actions.

How can they get flagged to hunt down other players in the first place, if they have to hunt down flagged players first?
I mean, if they can only flag to kill a flagged player, after they´ve killed a flagged player, they´ll never be able to kill their first one, and thus never be able to level ;)

But I guess, you mean a sort of auto-flag, as soon as they attack or are attacked.

Apart from that, I won´t say anything about it.

Yes I ment that it would auto-flag on attack. Reason for this would be that they could not just "turn on" pvp mode, they would have to take a hostile action to flag.

I definatly understand what you mean there, I just figure it would add to the already PvP style in PR. Since you are already forced PvP in there. But as far as forced PvP using cats. It is a choice to use cats and we are and have been using them like drugs with no consequence. Drugs have consequence :-P Should be time for a little risk involved in the use lol.

Aside from the cats part, which I'm sure could be eliminated or compensated for in some manner and still make this idea work and be fun. Does anything else sound good or bad?
