In fact, that feature only makes it easier for the older players, the newbies see a wall of skulls everywhere as soon as they leave the capital. The star system would tell them more info about the mob difficulty than a silly skull.

Also you can solo some mobs 30 levels above you, some others you can't, but the game doesn't make a difference between them and still puts a skull.

That new feature doesn't make the game more newbie friendly. A color circled skull doesn't tell you squat about a mob's difficulty. A yellow skull could be anywhere between 51 and 100. The star system was good enough to give you an approximation. You already get a mob's exact level by looting it, you don't need the target jauge to tell you in advance.

The old players don't need the game to be made easier for them. And that feature doesn't make it friendlier for newbs either. It's mistargeted. In fact, it should be the opposite : as long as you haven't reached that level, it shows as a number, then once you're past it, it shows as the good old star system. That way the newbs have their numbers and the oldies have the old star system.

Unless the newbies come here and tell us to screw the numbers as well...

Agreed with all that's said here. The old scheme, with the popup that gave you a rough idea of the level of the critter, worked pretty well, and it also was consistent with the region you were in, which stressed their belonging to a single area.

Where knowing the exact level of a critter helps is for missions, where you need Gnoof skin of level 148, and have to look around between two or three types to find out which one actually will yield a material of the proper quality.

But to me, the value of Atys is precisely that we start out and evolve and keep on living in a world where we don't understand everything there is to know about it first-hand. Having to poke around when you don't know can be fun.

I'd like it if we could toggle on/off from old colour/star system to new one. (I'd have mine set to old scheme on this).

Same for tooltips. Provide toggle on/off option, please.

I agree with Trini. While generally i found the patch good, the new level system is not.

This is less new players friendly while is too friendly for people that reached the master.

Seems devs think the game was not enough group oriented, forcing now more the new player to group to test the strength of animals.

I would recommend that it simply shows the average level when you mouse over the Icon (skull).
That simply means having the old system back....

I thought I'd give it a couple days before I said anything but meh, all this is to me is time wasted on something that wasn't broken. Here's hoping it wasn't a lot of time and it can be easily reverted.

Isn't there an ATS anymore where the players can test and give feedback on the new features ? Or are we currently testing the new features... while paying... I hope the feedback will be heard then.

"Don't fix what isn't broken" else you risk effectively breaking it. New is not necessarly better, just different. The old version was more newb friendly than the new one, I think we all agree.
