With the changes to harvesting in patch 1, I think it's important to keep a basic idea in mind -- if the game was like that to begin with, it would never have been an issue. Level 250 would be a distant goal.
If we're going to play on and let the devs continue to work things out, we should all take the attitude now that we've been playing an early version of the game, and had an advantage for a short while. Think of early Ryzom as a good thing while it lasted -- something we all got to take advantage of.
Cerest and support, I don't want to undermine how big this one is -- a good amount of people are talking like people do before they quit, and not just when they're whining. I think it would be good to keep a close eye on this.
Players, remember that the only way Ryzom is going to start losing its player base is if we take the attitudes taken in other threads. We don't know how this will affect play on the large. We also don't know what ways to solo or tricks we'll find out with this new set of rules, and believe me, a good player base will figure out a lot. Either way though, harvesting won't be as easy, and fighting groups will be better off fighting lower EXP fights closer to their own level. The free-for-all is just about over. Enjoy it while it lasts 8)
A realistic perspective to keep in mind
Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
While I agree if it had started this way this situation might be a little different, however if the game had started this way in beta, alot of the players might not have even bothered to purchase this game to begin with. That must also be kept in mind.
Neverax I BEG You, ( I'm already paying you /wink ) Read the 9 page thread below and take the some serious consideration of it. Like I keep repeating alot of these changes are good things, and are necessary, but alot are not.

Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
A very good point Aelvana. You are right, if it would have been like that from the start it would have been fair to all players.
One slight problem though. There still is no game content.
In other words, you now cannot do the things that you used to do anymore but there really is not much of a motivation to find a way around it. Why would I even bother to kill that mob again that I used to be able to kill easily. I already know there is no further purpose, the mob will drop nothing but junk and in the long run it was pointless to kill him anyhow.
In the end, a boring world where the things people still enjoyed have been mostly eliminated, now they need to work hard again for a repetetive task that they already grew bored of.
Wrong solution to a serious issue.
PS: The right solution would have been to introduce new game content that provides a challenge and not touch the existing one. There are many ways to address a slight imbalance in gameplay, the nerf-bat is the easiest and worst one.

Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
I agree with the original post, treat the game as it will be from now on as it should be.
It was obvious to me once I found out the effect of materials spec that it meant people/harvestors were leveling faster than the designers imagined. It may also be that all other classes are advancing faster thena the designers want. We dont know what their original specs for the game were, and real live players always tend to beat the best estimates you can make.
I am going to take the view that getting to level 250 is meant to be a longer term task then what it seems to be now, and that they are making changes toward that. I may be living in a dream world... well yes actually I am, its called SoR... but when it all comes down to it, you can accept change and move on and have fun, or you can rage against it and not have fun.
Change in a MMORPG is mandatory, as long as it remains within acceptable limits I will continue with the game. You all just need to define your limits and make a decision. Each to your own...

Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
I'm definitely aware of the lack of content, and am inclined to do the leveling / exploring thing a while longer while waiting. I guess it's a personal call, how much longer you'd wait. My original post was strictly about getting around patch 1, though.
Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
Aelvana, clearly you have not tried to level any crafting field past 100 (especially armor or jewelry). Under the current system it takes literally hundreds upon hundreds of man-hours of harvesting mats to boost a full armor set up just 10 quality levels past 100.
I would think that a non-guilded casual crafter spending 20hrs a week on Ryzom doing nothing but harvesting/crafting could expect to harvest for over a year to make level 150 in armor sets of any one type. This is under the current system; God knows what it will be after patch 1.
Oh, and as if ranged fighters didn't have it bad enough, it looks like they will be the ones suffering the most from the patch.
Despite my better judgement and the protests of nearly every tester on the ATS, I am willing to give this patch the benefit of the doubt, but I have a feeling the next thing to be nerfed will be the accounting department at Nevrax.

Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
Honestly I log almost every day for an hour or two. It's a good way to avoid spending money in that scary SinCell known as DOWNTOWN. I try and spend a few days a week spending LOTS of time on Ryzom, like 3-5 hours. I've even done a few full days when I was sick. I'm not a camping powerleveling guy. I like to roam a little so I naturally level slower. But man...peeps at 150+ blow my mind. I think it's great you can afford the time to get up there but snice it's so fast within a month or two of starting...something needs to be done! We're gonna have world renowned hero's before they even have to do more than simple tasks.
Yes it's the system's fault, not the players, but there needs to be a curb on the leveling....but I think there should be a balance of higher content implemented at that level before the lower levels. Just kinda thicken the level content like soup with yummy corn starch missions as we progress. Replayability with other races will be pretty cool then.
Maybe this is what Nevrax planned, maybe it isn't. At least we can wait to see the full implementation of the patch before we pass judgement.
I don't like the harvest change either. If we're gonna have more stuff blowing up on us I think we should at least get compensated with more mats per pull, or at least experience for ground stab. and resource pres. I tried to harvest with a guildmate and I only got xp for it if I prospected and she harvested...and then she didn't get the prospect exp. So group harvesting will be nonexistant since the current harvest is slow enough in it's current form.

Re: A realistic perspective to keep in mind
Its all to do with game balancing. You shouldn't be able to max your level in a few months of play. When the content does come in, those people will be long gone, having levelled themselves to boredom.
Sometimes I wonder if these people enjoy a challenge, or are more interested in inflating their egos. I bet they would run bots if it promisied faster levelling. Sorry kiddos, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Isn't that a litle ignorant to call people that play more ( or possibly just better ) than yourself "kiddos" and "bot users" ?jeffhill wrote:Its all to do with game balancing.
