Many of us have been ready to pay for a monthly sub since the servers came up, this wasn't possible then and it still isn't. We were told there were (are?) some problems, what these are we can only guess as little or no information has been given. I'd say the question of a lifetime subscription is the least of your problems.

First get billing back online, give the current community some idea of what's in store for the future as well as some clue as to who we are dealing with.

The long silence hasn't done you or the game much good, breaking that silence soon with some straight and to the point answers is what's needed right now and even then it will take some time before faith is restored.

I'd say the main difference is the general idleness of the servers. Aniro has had events which, short of changing gameplay, kept folks entertained. Mercenary and renegade guilds also kept action going. Moreover, most folks there have a measure of confidence stemming from the presence of some of the old Nevrax team running the game. As for Leanon, players there probably understand the costs involved in running the game, and are grateful for the free time. But as with all polls, the size of the sample influences results greatly.

I have not responded to the poll yet, but agree that such an offer is premature; the payment process has already been announced several times, then delayed, then followed by a period of mutism. Moreover, it doesn't really provide Spiderweb with the steady income it would need to continue to develop and thrive in the long term. I also have reluctance to giving money blindly; surely the identitie(s) of the new owner(s) can't be that shameful that they should feel the need to hide from us.

However, I think what's presented here is but an option. It doesn't necessarily mean that the new owners are short on cash (my original reaction, incidentally, was precisely that), but perhaps merely that they're considering possible options in a general sense.

It should all become clear soon™.

No, because I don't have confidence in your transparency or the future of Ryzom.
I find it very strange that you gave us that option to vote on. This indicates that you understand that you have that problem. Just posting this poll was poor judgment because it invited a pile of negativity in a sticky at the top of your main board for all the new people to see. Now that leaves me even more worried about being able to continue enjoying this game.

Since you know you have this problem, why not do something about it FIRST, then try the poll?

I voted the last one too. I am willing to put lots of my time and effort into trying to make Ryzom fun, doing player things that players can do because I enjoy doing this. But I won’t pay anything in advance for anything (not just Ryzom) unless it’s the only option, or it includes new crafting plans for assorted different undies.

I will gladly pay for my subscription 3 months at a time, and if in three years I am still happily playing, I will not regret having spent more than the lifetime subscription cost. I am fortunate enough to have sufficient income to support it.

I burned myself out trying to market this game for you and offer user support through a variety of channels, without any thought of compensation for the hundreds of hours of frustrations and loss of personal playing time I experienced.

You've done a reasonable job with bug fixes and so forth. Thank you for that.

But I am burned out, not on the game, but on the business. I will not commit to one year, nevermind two or three. Not without a great deal more confidence in where you will take us in that time.

Tell me what I'm buying, and I'll reconsider.

Three years like the past 6 months is not worth spending my precious time, a more rare commodity than the money.

*shrug* Whatever.
be assured, no real insult was intended. was genuinely wondering what the reasons could be for this difference and thought the wording to be plain enough recognizable as a tiny bit ironic. and ehm, I've read the thread on aris as well as leanon (left out aniro though). Reasoning for not spending that amount into the blue are perfectly reasonable, which made me just wondering more how this discrepancy can arise.

However, although situations in terms of events may show a bit of variance between the servers this, to me, does not fully explain the difference. Of course the sample is biased which may explain it.

I wrote out a big long response to this.. But I think it really boils down to this..

If ryzom needs 260 USD from as many people as possible, to make this game continue... SO BE IT! WAKE UP EVERYONE.. THIS IS THE LAST CHANCE...if we don’t do it right this time.. If we don’t get ahead right now.. RYZOM WILL FAIL AGAIN.. Maybe the new owners don’t want to say this. Maybe they arnt comfortable saying it. Think about it though. Right now.. Draw a line in the sand.. Whether you are hating the people in charge, disappointed, feel anger but don’t know why.... What do you want to happen? Do you want Ryzom or not? Do you want to ride the coat tails of other people and POSSIBLY have Ryzom make it another year? Or do you want to go ahead now and give it all we got. Yes this amount of money is not possible for everyone. But for the people who can.. DO IT!

Who knows if Ryzom will make it.. Yes it is a gamble.. But in 3 years we can either have a game that you NEVER have to pay for again (or continue paying and giving donations)... That you know you gave 100 percent for.... Or.... You can continue to watch the game you love disappear, never having a chance and never putting forth an effort to help it succeed.

Im tired of hearing everyone say such negative stuff about this game. We all know you still love this game, or you wouldnt be complaining so much about it. Yes maybe you dont like the owners.. you dont like the secrecy.. well hate to say it, but thats out of your control right now.. Think about what you can do. Stop complaining and start being proactive. Make a change.

Feel free to harass me in-game.

Donations would look very bad for a MMO, i wouldnt do it if i were them.
Most of the complaints in this thread are morally and logically correct, but i wonder if anyone considered the simple fact they might be hanging on a straw right now.
If i understood correctly they (whoever they are) did the utterly silly thing of paying good money to buy this game and have been running it free of charge for many months while implementing fixes and doing updates too.
Yeah sure lets state the obvious they have "piss poor" communication, lets ignore the other obvious thing, namely they might have valid reasons for doing so.
Its so much easier to assume they are just incompetent and dont know what they are doing and whats going on, right?
Someone wondered why other communities had a more positive reaction to this poll, my guess is that they didnt have members of their community carefully maintaining a state of communication paranoia in the forums and bashing the new owners constantly.
The new owners did something totally crazy to buy the game in the first place, then even more crazy to run it for free and work on it for free, now they are asking how crazy the community is willing to be to support them.

I will go for the lifetime sub on one account because I'd like to help Ryzom out. I don't think you'd be asking if you didn't need it now. And I have been playing for a long time for free. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of the game in the couple of years I've played and the cost has been very minimal when compared to other forms of entertainment.

They're still asking folks to look at the poll in the in-game MOTD. They never said they'd respond either, just that they asked for feedback. There will likely be some changes on May 1st (which admittedly is a soon™...), so let's just see how things go.
