The game was ruined by community

Post by akovylin »

IMHO, started playing in the middle on GameForge era and think the game was ruined by community that refused the only high end content existed in game - op wars.

Just curious with opinions....

The community was here before the OP wars.

second half of Nevrax' and the Gameforge eras focussed on pvp because it was popular in the genre, and neglected the community's wishes to focus more on PvE. Kitin Lair could have been done and if that wouldn't be endgame content i don't know what would. OP pvp is an option, just like any pvp in the game is optional.

We can speak long time about the community and the ins and outs of an old established one.
Sure there can be problems, elitism and such but, in the first place, without this community, the game would have been death since Nevrax 1st bankrupcy.

Really the community saved the gamed, not the contrary, imho.

And, sorry, but OP wars were not done as high end content. I can agree it was poorly implemented, not thinking exactly what would have been happened with factions, but OP wars were imagined as a GvG affair, covering all the level ranges. If it was a high end content, there would have been only lvl 250 Outposts.
And, personally, i think as it is now, OP should be only 250 level, or, same thing, there should be no levels around special mats.
The actual behaviour has a good thing that encourage politics and trade agreements between guilds, but it also contribute to ruins the already broken economy, as it is now.

The problem around Op mats is that they are considered PvP oriented. That's obviously not true.

If i can have, in example, a boosted gear with more than 310 parry, with a vedice spear, and considering the boosting tools are done with OP mats, then it can be used against kitins more effectively than normal sup gear, so helping a lot in the PvE part of boss hunting, kitin nests and, most probably, kitin lair if it was in game.

So, the statement: "you don't need to pvp to enjoy the pve" is not true at all.
Looking the PR regions where you can find supernodes are PvP enabled, Ryzom IS a PvP oriented game actually.

Only in grinding levels you don't need any special stuff, more, you can effectively grind thru normal content even with lower grade gear, because you can't solo most of the time.

So, that was the real reason why the community didn't liked OP in the first place, but wanted more PvE content, rites (encyclopedia?) and meaningful regions to go to for a reason.

So, i think the community is still trying to save Ryzom, despite seems we are still considered more as a 'problem' than as a 'feature' to base the future of the game.

Supernodes aren't the be-all and end-all of material acquisition. They're nice if you can outcamp your fellow harvesters to reap them, but they are not necessities.

But it is true. You can trade grind mats for OP materials without ever touching PvP yourself. Furthermore, OP wars aren't frequent enough to make the link between battles to obtain/retain them and the collecting of their benefits a strong one.

On a tangent, why is the economy said to be broken? Sure, it doesn't function as fully as EVE Online's, but then, most don't. In a way we epitomise "player driven economy" by changing our currency.

i have been in ryzom since dec 04 and outpost did`nt ruined the game from my point of view what did was the lack of content coming into the game you hit lvl 250 and look forward to grinding another skill tree yay but most people will only grind for so long before getting bored
outpost wars are optional noone is forced to take part :D

Yup and they are mostly gone now apart from a few diehards living in a large and very pretty chat room.

It's immaterial "why" the game failed so miserably, whats done is done, I have never felt so negative about Ryzom before, but some incidents over the last few weeks, make its a pointless excercise to bust my butt off grinding levels.

In fairness, I believe this game to be screwed totally beyond redemption, especially now I see the writing on the wall with the three year sub Poll.

I hope it recovers, but I'm not holding my breath anymore.

Better a poll than a sudden, silent, and inexorable implementation.

This question makes an assumption that the game is "ruined". Which it isn't, in my opinion, yet.

Someone must pvp to make any trades, so still the statement, in a general sense, is not true. The fact that someone can be out of pvp doesn't means that Ryzom is not a pvp oriented game *now*. It is, and this is a fact.
I can play EVE and never go thru 0.0, but just living in Empire.... isn't EVE a pvp oriented game?

The actual low frequency of OP wars depends by the lack of the players and by actual balance of the OPs between factions.

The economy is not broken? Well, i don't want to discuss this here. it was already discussed elsewhere.

Trading mats can be done only by master diggers (or high enough), i don't think any low-mid people could remotely think they could accept a trade that involves digging 500-1000 mats (just as a low agreements, normal trades starts for higher number of mats).
So, they just rely on their guild to get stuff.

Of course this is my opinion, if you think different no problem.

x Kiakaha: I agree. Seems the Original Poster missed the question mark at the end of the title. The game is not ruined at all, it is still one of the best concept ever seen in the MMO genre.
