Many people associate neutrality to trytonist when it has been pointed out that both are very different. To be neutral means not belonging to any faction and staying impartial to the faction conflicts. I agree with this 100%. The benefits of being neutral, as it stands now, are perfect. Neutrality does not need to be a faction. [font="]Back in the days when the lore meant something Elias Tryton was an underground organization and those who followed him were dub Trytonist. There are many players in game who would quickly jump on Eliass side if it were a faction, I would be one of them.
Should Trytonist be a third faction on Atys?
Absolutely, I see no reason why it shouldnt. Some say that it would be pointless because the factions have a common enemy, the Kitin, but Elias is also a common enemy to the factions. According to the old lore homins on both sides (Kami/Karavan) secretly follow Elias, so it is already a fact that Elias is a splinter group, a set, a secret faction.
What are your thoughts on Trytonist becoming a third faction? Give your opinion and lets try to not turn this thread into a flaming war. I know this has been discussed before but given the current game situation and the few new players in game, I'd like to hear what their thoughts are on the subject.

Re: Third Faction Poll
I'm not really sure on what I think of it tbh.
Like, what would they do as a faction?
Currently as it stands, take OP wars, they tend to divide out generally along kami vs kara lines. Would the Trytonists act like the current "neutral" guilds, I dont know fully if the neutral guilds espouse Tryton ideals, or just dont want to be involved politically with the karas and kamis.
Would they need to raise Tryton fame and become Tryton Disciples (for want of a better name) and have their own TP's?
Neutral guilds as they stand seem to have alot of support, They would seem to have a significant number of OP's in relation to their population, so they aren't in effect marginalised in any way, to my knowledge.
The bottom line for me is, what would they do that current neutral guilds dont do. I'm not a lorehound, so I dont know what their "underground" leanings were, the only "underground" that springs to mind for me, would be something in WW2, like the Resistance or something, maybe they were miners, I dont know enough I guess to make an informed opinion, but it does leave me curious

Re: Third Faction Poll
I voted bad idea, tentatively, for a reason you already stated. Trytonists are a _secret_ faction. Very highly so. Trytonists have been witchhunted in the past, and I believe they are still witchhunted by sects of the governments that are trying to keep racial fighting alive to further their own gains.
Trytonists work subtly, and often will be part of the two main factions, if for no other reason than to spy. I think the lore and story of Elias needs to seriously be visited by events and stories, but I don't think Tryton should be a faction.
Of course, my opinion may change over time, depending on how events are handled.
Peace,
- Sui

Re: Third Faction Poll
I'm not at all sure that having Trytonism be a third faction is a good idea, even though I started out thinking of myself as a Trytonist.
Part of the attraction of the game for me is that it forces you to commit to one side or another in an effectively religious way. In a real-life world that is largely a-religious (fanatics aside), this is an interesting thing to role-play. If the Karavan and the Kami are the Catholic Church and the Baptists, then the Trytonists are the secular humanists of Atys. This is not so much a faction as a view of the world.
All homins have a common enemy in the Kitin and a secondary enemy in the representatives of the "other" side, whether homin or truly Kami or Karavan. To the Trytonists, as I understand the hints of the lore, no homin is an enemy.
I like the idea of events getting associated with a resurgent Trytonist insurrection either opening up new areas or actually striking against Kami and Karavan targets. In fact, I suspect that the encyclopaedists could be a front for Tryton, at least some of them.
And I agree with Sui, that Trytonists should be secret -- no flags or titles right up until the moment of revolution.
Thanks for the thread

Re: Third Faction Poll
I love third factions. A tri-faction system over a dichotomy could potentially offer more choice, as not wanting in faction A still leaves you B and C and doesn't automatically force you into faction B, and tend to make the faction-war more balanced and more fluctuating - as the two weaker factions would likely team up against whichever is the strongest at the time until balance shifts again. It also makes for more complicated politics.
However, I'd have to agree with Sui that Trytonism, lorewise, is not set up to be an "equal partner" with the two religions. If it were to be made into a faction, it'd have to be according to completely different rules - Trytonists would have to hide that they are Trytonists, and many would probably stilll join the karavan or kami faction as a guise. Meanwhile they'd be doing secret undercover missions or some such, while constantly risking exposure... it'd be a hard thing to implement gamemechanically.
But the story of Atys is supposed to evolve, so if they get it underway and write the story correctly, perhaps after a number of Atys years Trytonism can eventually become a full-fledged third faction in it's own right.

Re: Third Faction Poll
It would have to be introduced properly, and I think a great deal further down the time line.
95% of the nutreals just don't want to be a part of an organized group, any group. If you want to destroy Trytonism, the quickest way, would be to make it an official faction.
Part of being in a SECRET faction, is being SECRET, best place to hide would be with the Kami or Karavan and the higher up the better.
Almost all (not this one) request for a third faction have more to do with wanting to ignore the realities of Atys. I think it would be little more then a distraction and a complete disregard for previous history to introduce a full fledged third faction at this time.

Re: Third Faction Poll
As I still havent forgiven Nevrax for what they did to the Fame system ( it went from something intricate and interesting, to a simplistic bipolar PvP appendage ) I flat out dont trust any devs to implement a third faction as part of game mechanics.
As things stand, I can be a neutral in a factioned guild, but I doubt they would let me be a Trytonist in a Karavan Guild
I doubt my concept of neutral quite matches other peoples, but I see pretty disparate interpretations of what it means to be Kami or Karavan worshippers as well, so thats not a show-stopper.
About the only thing I miss as a neutral, is TP access to PR and level 250 zones... and let me think, where should I be spending my time, as someone with several 250's - working towards others ?
Now the original Lore ( may have been rewritten to comply with whatever idealogy they're following this week/month/year ) had Tryton as Jena's lover... not something that meshes with Jena being deified.. and he wasn't a pet by any means. He had the knowledge to 'hack' the Karavan systems to achieve his own objectives. Non-lore sources indicate he was even more potent.
Basically, Tryton can go anywhere the Karavan can reach, and probably the Kami also. If people are doing his work, it makes sense he would help them if they needed it.
So, for gameplay effects, 'hacked' versions of the currently restricted TP tickets could be for sale (maybe 100k-250k dappers) but only to non-factioned people.

Re: Third Faction Poll
I agree with Suibom here.
If secret Trytonism would be officially implemented into the fame system as it is now, it wouldn´t be a secret anymore.
If it was to be implemented at all, currently it would have to be done "in secret", through RP or non-RP means that would let players state their allegiance to Tryton in true secrecy. So that there´d be no way for others to find out.
But believe me, someone always blabbers.
And once it would be known OFF-Game, it would all be known In-Game faster than you could say: "Unfair."
This behavior has been the bane of secret societies in LARPs all over the world for years and years. Once anyone tells someone he´s a member of X, over a nice pint at the local bar, completely out of the game.
There is simply no question that this knowledge will crop up in their game rather sooner, than later. And everyone will deny any Off-Game knowledge and will the construct most weird excuses for their "illegal" In-Game knowlegde.
I´ve seen some friendships break over that.
And I´m definitely against it, for it would bring nothing but trouble.
So many said: "I can keep any secret."
So many failed to do so.
Sad as it is, but it´s a fact.

Re: Third Faction Poll
Ohhh, I thought the goal of this universe was for us homins (faction 1) to free ourselves and to clear this planet of the kitin threat (faction 2)...
Are you people still killing yourselves because you heard of the man who saw the man who spoke about the man who heard someone say that there might be gold somewhere?
Click on the old man in sig maybe to remind yourself of what you have lost............

Am pretty sure that statement is wrong (or I am from the 5%); been organized is good: I am sure you would see many neutral attend the spank n dig events if those keep going...danolt wrote:95% of the nutreals just don't want to be a part of an organized group, any group.
Maybe neutrals have a different view of this planet that grouping to gank their own kind: nothing to do with organization
As a reminder; neutrals managed in Dunes episodes to spank both factions at same time
