The answer is that Prime Roots ≠ bowels. There are about a hundred layers of roots, and only the top layer is known as Prime.

Which would be borne out by the quote from the Karavan Prophecy above:
The Prophecy wrote: Nevertheless, the Karavan still permit their followers to go down into the upper levels of the Prime Roots if there is a valid reason for going there.

Uhm... Nevrax pendulum back?

If this is not the case, and there is no confirmation, or it is based on speculation, feel free to discard the rest of the post...Maybe there is a reason (Kitin Patrols tied to events, etc.) which would be great.

It would be interesting to know the rationale behind the changes. There hasn't been a poll or similar, so I guess we don't even know how many players complained (a lot? a few ones making lots of noise? lots of tickets?). It is unfortunate that we can't even have a post by some comunity liaison *explaining* anything. We are again feeling that the game is being balanced "live on production servers". At least, if this is the case, could you comment on that? (I have no problem with balancing tweaks, it is true that it is hard and the test server is not always appropriate for that)

Here, let me draft one for you, feel free to cut and paste at your convenience, no IPR, no copyright, all yours...

Dear players,

As you may have noticed, the latest patch re-introduced the well known Kitin Patrols in game, which had been disabled due to several reasons a while ago. We believe that the Kitin Patrols have their "raison d'être", and that was the main factor for that.

We are closely following forums and other means of feedback, and we have listened carefully to our potential customers. We are committed to provide the best playing experience to you, the players. It seems that there are valid reasons for your comments (and complaints) and that a re-vamp of the system is justified.

In consequence, we have decided to disable the Kitin Patrols while the dev team performs an exhaustive study of the issue. We aim to find a balance between the playing experience and the fact that the prime roots are supposedly a hard "zone", tied to specific aspects of the lore. We are currently considering reducing the aggro range, reducing the number and level of the patrol group, adding a random factor to the pre-established paths or even removing them completely. Additionally, due to the presence of patrols, we will re-evaluate the hardcoded, half-cooked 70+ limit on materials (which was anasty hack...ups, this part is mine)

Your feedback is most valuable, you are welcome to post on the new thread that we have created for this.

Thank you for your continuous interest in Ryzom,

XXXXXXXXXX,

Spiderweb Community Liaison / The development Team/Whoever

Dear players,

The Kitin Patrols are behaving as expected / as intended / as designed, and, in line with Ryzom view of a living world, there are more factors to consider when talking about the Kitin....

Yours,
XXXX

Meh ! I was alright with having KPs, I just had trouble with their aggro range. I guess it does have a logic, since the Kitins might perceive we are no longer a threath to their nests.

Periodic KPs seems like a good idea to me. Sometimes a huge load of hyper-aggressive Kirostas, sometimes just a couple of them doing their routine patrol. They'd re-appear at season changes when there is supposed to be a lot of homins down there and slowly disappear as the Kirostas return to their nests (and de-spawn)... or get killed.

gralen wrote: Here's an interesting question for you: Why do the Karavan teach that it is forbidden to enter the Prime Roots? There are things down there that they don't want homins to *see*. It is the scenery in the Prime Roots which hold the most tantalizing clues about Atys' history. Most homins focus so much on staying alive or digging mats or killing critters that they miss what is actually right before their eyes.
Since you asked....

“You shall not descend into the bowels of Atys
lest the holy light leaves your heart,
and the Dragon’s darkness devours your soul.”

This is the most misunderstood of all the Jena Commandments.

It is a warning. It is an if you do this, then x could happen statement.

“Lest” is a qualifier. It means ‘for fear that.’ The reason we are told not to go into the depths of Atys is because we lack the ability to survive there.

Sometimes when someone tells you “do not stick your hand in the fire”, they are actually hoping you won’t get burned.

The whole 'Karavan are keepins secrets in the roots' thing is one of the top Kami strawman arguments. We all know the Kami send Homins into the bowels of Atys whenever asked. It is not like the Kami have their own oasis where they deny Homins entrance or anything like that at all. The Kami are all about letting Homins go wherever they want.

So, why won't the Kami let homins in the oasis (which actually exsists in the game)?
