I see it as it is probably intended to be:
Getting the Homins to become closer and more depending on each others help and reestablishing the Kitin as the threat to homin security the way they were meant to be.
In addition to finally getting the story going again.
Sadly and understandably not everyone will be happy about these developments and I don´t envy the people at the top the in the slightest these tough decisions to make. I only can congratulate them for not going the easy, cookie cutter way! Bravo!
Players need challenges to arise to, not silver plates to be served.
While I agree that their aggro range is a bit tough at the moment. But who knows, maybe they´ll calm down a little with time and the next small patch?
