Recommandation: password longer the 8 characters !!!

Only at Ryzom.com and only in the Ryzom game that I am restricted to 8 characters maximum password. In all other places and games I play, there is (for as far as I know) no limit to the length of the password.

As effect, I often type it without remembering the length restriction because when I had first chosen, I had picked something which is easy for me to remember and longer then 8 characters. So I sometimes have to retype it because I remembered the limitation.

It would be a security increase if the password was longer.

So I recommand that this is changed.

Also, the fact that I cannot use the "_" in my name is very annoying as I use the same player name in every games and every forum I use.

8 characters? ICQ service (ICQ instant messenger) passwords are restricted to 8 characters maximum.
And if your password is not like "12345678" or "qwerty" or "password" it's good enough.
BTW, how long will it take to bruteforce a password that looks like "6*y!@H7G"?
So, it's not so bad with maximum lenght, but it's will be better if new owner add punctuation symbols

P.S. And check this, may be it's time to change password?

Yick, no ASCII or numbers in names, ta. Spaces, though, would be nice.
And you don't have to retype the pword ingame - any characters beyond 8 are just ignored. If your password is monkey12 and you type monkey12istotallyadrugsmuggler, it'll still accept it.

Agreed, as well as the ï character by extension.

While 8 characters does seem a bit short for a password limit nowadays, it's still sufficient, especially for a game with such a manageable membership. (At least keyloggers go for worthwhile WoW accounts instead. ) Sure, my passwords are traditionally longer, but the limit just required something tailored for the game. It can't hurt your online security to have different passwords for each application anyway.
