Just one thing to add to Fiachs conviction again here
Experiment!
Don´t be too sure about haveing only one way to level, or fight, or do magic, or whatever. One of the great pluses of Ryzom is that this isn´t that case and I must admit I´m a always a quite disappointed when Oldies like Fiach and others leave this important advise out of their explanations.
Many of their so called "useless/crap skills" can very well be used inGame if you only take the time to try and use them.
If you´d for example exclusively use "Increased Damage" + Accuracy and just would "pay" for it with the usual Stamina "cost", you´d be down in quite a few seconds and would have to regenerate quite often. In effect spoiling your fun and making you think the old "This combat system sucks" comment, we´ve all heard so often.
Try fighting with things like "attack after parry/dodge".
They will help you in keeping your stamina up quite good.
Same goes for time and distance credits in magic.
They´ll help you keep your Sap/HP.
With a bit of practice you´ll be able to do better that just whack whatever comes your way with the
biggest stick and be "pumped out" after two fights.
The "aim" stanzas in my opinion could need an overhaul, but for example:
If you hits something over the head hard enough it´ll be stunned and not be able to fight back for some seconds. Just like the Kipee will stun you.
You´ll be in less danger.
So where´s the problem with aiming for the head?
Just don´t be intimidated by all those skills you see at the trainers.
Try and learn, even if it means you´ll seem to have "misspent" 10 points or something.
You´ll eventually get to buy all skills, that´s correct and I´m quite sure the final "overflow" of XP points to there being some "not yet implemented" skills, we´ll hopefully get to see some day.
So to us oldies, please guys and girls, if you really want Newcomers to experience the fullness and uniqueness of the system and to really enjoy it, don´t keep pointing them
your way. Even if it worked for you.
They might just be looking for more
Be fair, give them a chance and point out other things too.
Remember
this thread?
Especially the things that make Ryzom unique and won´t turn their experience into the same old "hit it hard `till its dead" routine.
