I'll speak only for myself here, not for anyone else, especially not the company currently attempting to turn a profit operating Ryzom.kay22626 wrote: In order to get new players, concessions and compromises have to be made. Ryzom community is great, but it comes across as quite hard a*s, very tough against new players that dont behave according to the Ryzom etiquette, and i might be wrong but i think that might be a factor in the current state of the game.
Hard a*s?
We have a reputation as the friendliest, most helpful, most polite, most mature community in any MMO. Deservedly, in my experience.
We do seem to expect new people to try to act accordingly. I won't apologize for that, nor would I want it to change.
We also have a reputation for enjoying the difficulty of our game, reveling in it, even. It is better, for us, at least. I personally believe there are more than enough people in the world who enjoy an intelligent challenge to keep Ryzom afloat with subscriptions. Easy is boring.
Nor does the game need to have two million subscribers to be profitable. If it offers enough fun and benefit to people who enjoy this particular niche, it will garner enough revenue to continue.
I think that spiderweb is, so far, doing exactly what Ryzom needs - except for communication. Bug fixes, events, and ongoing development. A sense that the game is no longer static. I'm hopeful that better communication is coming soon, along with more patches (once they are well-tested) and more events. I'm already seeing a marked increase in forum traffic, and not just from old players who can post again.
We've had a nice "morning" since the servers restarted, waking up slowly and looking around. It feels like we are about to get up and get going now.
