I do not have any specific artists I listen to while playing Ryzom.
I simply tune up my Winamp to the Ambiant type and click on "Drone Zone:Atmospheric ambiant space music".
Since Ryzom about an alien planet, I thought this type of music would suite the ambiance and it kind of does.

Oh me? I have a long list of songs and pick whatever I'm in the mood for at the time. There really are no all-time favorites, just favorites of the moment.

Re: What music do you listen while playing Ryzom ?
Dudes,
I crank up the Michael Bolton.
And get my sad on.
Beau
EDIT: Seriously, I listen to whatever the wife is tuning in on Pandora. It's usually indie-girl fronted rock, and it has gotten to the point that I can't stand male singers from bands after about '94.

I´ve send you a PM Browse
But Music, is of course as individual as there are personalities out there.
While I for the love of (insert chosen deity) can not understand how hardcore Techno could in any way fit into Ryzoms Scenery, the person listening to it would by the same token probably be unable to like Movie Scores, which I listen to mostly.
Allright, sometimes I admit a suitable techno-beat piece does fit a particularly heated fight scene, or some trance pieces do fit wonderfully on a sunset over Atys, but the constant boom, boom, boom, boom of hardcore would drive me nuts XD
At a club, fine. But on Atys, *shiver*
I love music in most of its various guises, but personally I think a world as beautiful and "epic" (in the sense of scale here) as Atys practically yearns for some suitably epic music.
Björn Arve Lagime did an amazing job of creating a Score that equally embodies both the power and the mystery Atys holds. The Main Theme alone, with its whispered words and dark, brooding strings, counterpointed by the bells and horns... whooo, it conveys a sense of hidden truth and mysteries to be solved. And later with the choir setting in, of urgency and heroic deeds. Just perfect, at least for me.
This is the music I want to listen too. But frankly, while I certainly do have my mp3 list running I leave it quite low, because the environmental sounds of Atys are so immersive and more "lifelike" than many I´ve heard so far.
Take for example Warcraft, while it has a truly formidable and beautifull score, it is in my oppinion sorely lacking in terms of immersive environmental sounds. When running trough the grasslands near Thunderbluff and hearing a budgies distinct chirp I couldn´t help but burst out laughing. I´d never figured Thunderbluff anywhere near Australia
So, I do listen to movie scores mostly, fantasy and sci/fi scores to be precise.
Just to grab a few names from my list:
Harry Gregson Williams (The Chronicles of Narnia)
The famous and inevitable John Willimas of course (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the lost Arc and many more)
Brian Tyler (The DUNE TV-Series)
Tyler Bates (300!!)
Jerry Goldsmith ( 13th Warrior, Star Trek, Alien)
Graeme Revell (The Crow, Below, Pitch Black)
Hans Zimmer (Pirates of the Caribbean (with Klaus Badelt), Crimson Tide, Black Hawk Down, Batman)
Klaus Badelt (Time Machine,P.o.t.Caribbean, Equilibrium, Constantine (with Brian Tyler)
George Fentons score to the The BBC "Planet Earth" Series is also amazingly beautiful and fitting.
And many more.
All these pieces provide me with a soundtrack as "ever shifting" as my experiences on Atys.
Of course a few non-soundtrack pieces do fit.
Dead Can Dance, Deep Forrest, Enigma, Enya, E.S. Posthumus, Globus, Adiemus, Cirque Du Soleil, Davy Spillane, Emma Shaplinn, Farfarello, Schandmaul, Corvus Corax, In Extremo, Mike Oldfield, Jean Michelle Jarre, Yello, Peter Gabriel (the greatest musical genius of our time!) and many more do feature prominently on my list.
But it is for everyone him/herself to decide what he/she likes best to "game" with. For those without an extensive collection and a wish to explore the far scapes of Score music here are a few links:
http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com provides ample opportunity for just that, but they don´t distinguish between the genres, they just stream anything named score
http://bluemars.org too streams free music, but more of a trance, mystical aspect. But nevertheless great to listen too.
http://www.lastfm.com lets you browse through others favorite musics (mine too of course) and listen to various artists, bands and genres all over the board.
Enjoy

Re: What music do you listen while playing Ryzom ?
Well I just came back to Ryzom (again o.o), so I can't say what I have been listening to while playing...
I can say what I likely will be listening to...
If not the in-game ambient sounds (for immersion factor),
I'll likely be listening to any of the following:
- Either of Devin Townsend's projects: Devin Townsend Band or Strapping Young Lad (the latter will probably be while fighting a lot)
- Anything by Rush
- My private "juke box" on playlist.com, which ranges between Enya and Anthrax and a bunch in-between (I have a pretty eclectic musical taste).
