how do i post my avatar and why can i not post in the general forums?

i looked in the forum rules and in the new player read but it talked about common sence courtesey and stuff

It's likely because you are on a free (limited) account. I haven't been able to post for ages because I'm an inactive (lapsed) member. The fact that I (and other inactives) can post again means that progress of some sort is being made.
