Enter Kailo...

Post by kailomonkey »

I just read the welcome email you get when signing up which suggested introducing one's self on this welcome board. So... with no real objection and having glanced over the forums along with everything else before downloading, I followed the link...

I've been playing for a week now as a male zorai, being male myself and deducing that the race had the least attention, and that I enjoy magic and healing. He has purple hair (purple /o/ ) and an array of light armours self made, and aquired from missions on the newbie isle...

...in the week I've played, I've leveled everything to 21+ and played the skills missions for magic (ofcourse), crafting and harvesting, and started the fighter missions yesterday. I loved the magic effects and the environment, prospecting is less exciting but I'm sure strong Star Trek fans might enjoy it :P And the ability to personalise your spells gave me alot of satisfaction, and the idea of crafting items with their own strengths and weaknesses is interesting too, though I don't know how useful it will be in my newbie state or for a career of actually supplying others...

...aswell as trying to help people along, and exploring, I also enjoyed the Ryzom Ring scenario editor! I've started making 2 masterless scenarios, the first I didn't get very far into, but the second which started as an NPC Dialogue Emotes experiment has developed afew mission parts and an effective second act, though still not complete...

...Although not set in stone, and not meant for critique; The problems I guess I have come to are:
1) Fighter quest having to kill Goo Heads (though I'm glad I waited a week before starting the fighter missions)
2) Ryzom Ring not having any player scenarios, or players to play my scenarios
3) People coming and going, ie friends that stop playing
4) Quite an isolated ezperience, and do I want to buy into the full game after newbie isle...

Many thanks for reading, kailomonkey

Welcome mate :)

Well with regards to people staying/leaving, Ryzom is a love/hate game. if you "get" Ryzom you will love it, if you dont, you are as well of hitting the more popular MMO's.

Lots more people on the mainland Kailo, I'm not sure about populations in other continents, but Fyros has a healthy population.

When you are ready, come to the mainland, check out a few guilds relative to the faction you choose, it will give you more purpose/direction and company while you play Ryzom :)

Its nice to see how much you have experienced in one week, hope you decide to stay on :)

Welcome to Atys then :)

And glad you´ve enjoyed your stay so far.

To give you a bit of advice:

1.) Actually I don´t quite know what you mean by that?
Would you have preferred NOT to kill them? Or do you mean they´re too hard?
If so, then well... get a team to help you ;)
Teaming up with others is very important in Ryzom.

2.) At the Moment the Ring suffers from sad neglect, yes. That is due to a lot of things, not the first being the problem that you HAVE to be IN your scenario to host it for others, sometimes causing you to spent hours in wait for someone to come along and play what you carefully built.
Another problem is, since relaunch the Ring shows many new bugs and problems that in effect make it quite hard to use and actually get serious content done :( I really hope they´ll fix this soon (tm)

3.) Uhm, well... either you find new friends or you take it as it is.
Ryzom´s not for everyone and many players simply don´t like what it´s got to offer to them or don´t take the time to get to know it for real. Sadly, that is.

4.) A Quote from a TV Show I quite like for that one:
"Alone is an unfortunate predicament, lone is an aesthetic choice."

So, find people to play with you, there´s no race to be first 250, or whatever here for most of us. Just get to know more people and "isolation" will be the least of your problems ;) :D

The Mainland is quite different from Silan, for sure. As there will be almost no "Quests" to follow and thus spent your time solo on some treasure-hunt or something. Again, get to know us, play with us, not against us and you will enjoy Atys to its fullest :)

Well I'm not a great fan of popularity ^^ I've played a game called (is it ok to name other games here?) Eternal Lands for over 2 1/2 years now :) Staying will probably depend more on whether I can play while keeping Real Life relatively positive really.

Thanks for all the attention given to answers, I wasn't really asking just summing up where I'm at in my lifecycle, wherever that leads. The Goo Heads are too hard yea, and I'd rather be healing than fighting, if I could find a team on Silan. The Ring I'll give a try somehow, I've had no problems personally so far, though it does have one player in mind rather than a team, thankyou for that info especially. Friends on newbie isle is a straight forward one too yea, the lifecycle patterns of newbies to an MMO... And lastly um, well it's related isn't it, would probably be easier to step into the community if there was a half-way location for mixing, but would hold more problems for regulars perhaps...

Thankyou for your thoughtful welcomes :) And continue to enjoy your worthy game.

Just a heads up Kailo, there is a link in acridiels thread for Ryzom movies. They are well worth checking out, they are very entertaining and quite evocative, they will also introduce you to alot of aspects of Ryzom life, that you will not encounter for a while, but are a nice enticement as to whats instore for you when you reach the mainland :)
