Group looting, how does it work?

Post by danebramage »

How does group looting work in Ryzom? I teamed up for the first time last night and as near as I could tell looting was a free-for-all; i.e. we just took turns looting the corpses, and whoever did the looting got all the stuff from that kill.

Is that the only option available? If so, are there established rules of etiquette I should know about? Thanks.

P.S. Also, targeting. I know I can use the space bar to target the nearest enemy in my line of sight, but sometimes that's not the one I want. Is there a "next target" or "target ally's target" hotkey? I didn't see anything in the keybinding options screen...

Welcome to Ryzom!

Yes, there is a system of sorts for looting. The way it has been done when I am teamed is someone loots all the kills. When the hunt is over, or when a person leaves, they are given/offered a share of the spoils. For common mob materials, the split should be even among the number of people in the team. For special materials (named creature or boss materials) the split is usually done by guild: 5 people in team, but only 3 guilds represented, so split is 3 ways.

For me, the rules of etiquette are simple: treat others as you wish to be treated. If a person does not live up to that simple rule for me, I don't hunt with them any more... Always offer a rez if someone is asking and you are available and capable, it may be you asking the next time....

As far as targeting goes, I think there is a "target target's target" macro you can set up (keep the tank as your target), or maybe even a preset you can use, look under "k" for the key bindings. I am unsure of this since I just use my mouse to select a target. If you have questions you need fast answers for, ask in the universe channel and you should get a quick response.

Again, welcome to Ryzom, have fun!

Looting sucks in Ryzom compared to other games, its all down to trust.

I spent 3 hours in Void once, healing, while the melee picked all loot.

When I was leaving, I asked for a share of the loot, the meleer said no, he needed it.

Guild hunts ftw.

Welcome to Ryzom :)

Have had that happen to me before too Val.... Hence my comment about not hunting with certain people anymore, and I also warn others about that person or persons. If more people knew the "rules" about sharing loot, that would happen less, especially if the word spread and the people who kept all the loot could not find teams anymore. The blame rests on all of us: a guild should make sure its members know and understand the looting rules, before a hunt begins the team should make sure it is understood there WILL be an even split on the mats, and when it is discovered a person hogs the loot all the team members need to let their friends know not to hunt with that person - and those friends tell their friends and so on...(btw, I am NOT saying to post those names in forums or in Uni..word of mouth between friends should work well enough)

There are always a few people behaving badly in every game. The trick is to make it so difficult for them to continue with that behaviour that they either change or leave the game.

You can create an assist macro. This is pretty flexible and can be set up in different ways.

Here's what I do in my assist macros:

Command 1: Target your ally's current target by using the Actions -> Target The Entity's Current Target macro. You have to specify your ally's name.

Command 2 (Optional): Automate the action you want to use on your ally's target.

I use a variation of this for team careplanning and for nuking with a tank/puller. I do have to edit the macro to set the name of the digger or tank each time I have a new teammate. You can also create a similar macro that targets the target of your current target. (Read that three times to make sure you got it :p ) With that you have to manually target your teammate first, then hit the macro key.

You can also right click your teammate and select "Assist" from the popup menu, but that can be a little slow in the heat of battle.

I'm not aware of a "Next Target" hotkey to cycle through available targets. That would be nice to have, I think. Anyone know a way to do this?

Thanks Sasi, I knew there was a way to do that, just haven't done it myself yet :p

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'm loving the game so far! I'm getting a little bit bored with Silan, but everone's got me so scared of leaving I'm grinding it out now, trying to hit 40 in melee and offensive magic before I go.

Unless you are hanging around for the equipment, head to the mainland, if you are getting bored there, no real point in staying IMO.

If you need any gear on the mainland, send me a PM. :)

Thanks, fiatch. The only problem now is I took the ocyx and the jungle boss (can't remember his name) quests, so now I have to finish 'em before I can leave. I've hunted and hunted for the stupid ocyx and haven't run across it yet for some reason. I know where it's supposed to be, but it's never there when I am. Oh well, I'll keep trying. :)

I made an alt on silan to have a look around (wasn't there when I started), I was very disappointed with the lack of direction, compared to any other MMO I have played, its not well implememnted to welcome new players.

Not interested in getting into a debate on Ryzoms "style", just comparing it to my other experiences, in fact I think I preferred the original starter area.

As for the quests you are doing, I cant help you, but at your level I would definately head to the mainland as soon as possible and get stuck in to Ryzom "proper", any rewards on the island will be worthless to you on the mainland in a couple of days.

If you see any of DCP members, send them a PM, mention my name and let them know what gear you need, they will sort you out if I'm not on.

Good Luck :)
