The bug is a problem only because the guild manipulation mechanics is - to be polite - primitive.
With all the vivid resurection of Ryzom population the biggest guilds still have no more than 50 people active, add to that 50 non active but probably coming back people, it leads us to a list of 100 maximum, not even close to 200.
Let alone the only tool is a fixed dimension, (mixed, not known) criteria order list, lacking any of the normal (in our century) features of a small unproffessional database.
Let alone you
- cannot search for a member
- cannot organise members on cathegories (seeing who is online only is probably the most primitive feature of a guild list on most MMOs)
- cannot see the date they logged last
- cannot see when they joined
- cannot see who recruited
- cannot add any note
- can veeeery carefully select (because it's small written, for a smaller pointer than the actual one used in game and the difference from making someone guild leader and kicking out of guild is infinitessimal)
- cannot send email from list
- cannot send a tell from list
- cannot send an all guild mesage from list (and from nowhere else)
- cannot see the whole list if you have more than 20-30 members
- cannot resize window
(yeah and cannot win, cannot leave game )
Letting all these out of discussion, the bug was triggered by the access to guild hall bad bad management.
The present day guild management puts equal between the guild hall access and high officer quality. It's not only wrong but probably was conceived by someone who never ever had a glimpse at Ryzom.
The High Officer is a very active, motivational person who invests a lot of time and effort in the development of the community. Does this make him needing the guild hall? Seldom, sometimes never.
The people who need the guild hall most are crafters, from old ones to those who just start developping their receipes.
The only means of a guild to give good access to its guild hall is then to have real high officers and people who are trusted to access the guild hall and who will bear the label of HO only for the sake of this access.
How you make high officers? Every multiple of 10 members brings you one spot. How many spots you need in a guild? Probably 20-30. Do the math. Without this logical bug probably nobody would have ever known about the crash server bug.
Who will then clean the guild list of inactives when this will lead to losing HO spots?
Guild management tool, in game forums tool and in game email tool have been probably made by same person. By comparison I seriously doubt it was somebody from the game development team (and I've always suspected it was some kid learning to program). All these 3 tools have been primitive, unfriendly and buggy ever since launch, never have been touched either even when they created big problems.
They don't need fixing, don't need revamping, they need plain replacement.

(To Sun, Faa posted while I was typing):
Then take screenshots of the tells, or whatever else, with whoever it is. It's not proof, certainly, but from that the CSRs will be able to check on that person's toons, check on the guilds, and at least go some way towards stopping this crap - even if only by telling the other guild's GL that they need to spring clean their roster.

Re: Server Crash
Some posts have been removed. Regardless of how "widespread" you think the knowledge may be, announcing it publically can only end badly for everyone.
As a general reply to this thread, kaetemi is correct in saying that the logs are stored by the server before the crash. If you believe you have "proof" that people are crashing the server, by all means please email it to support-ee@ryzom.com and/or speak to a CSR ingame so that we can take the appropriate action.
