Well Ive been sucked in. I played the game for almost a month off and on, and so far Ive loved it.
Of course I haven't yet left the Starter Island, but hopefully Ill do that soon.
I have been doing research and have noticed a lack of any real information after you leave the Starter Island and weird Holes in some of the info on the starter Island....
Primarily I have been using the Magic skill set, although a little fighting, and have wondered.
I bought a Light Robe Set, a Medium Set and a Heavy Set. By Set I mean everything but a helmet, since helmets are scarce on the starter island anyway.
I didn't notice a difference with casting speed or damage? Does latter sets get bonus and negatives wearing such as Heavy slowing casting time down?
oh well, if you see a Newb named Noxious running around say Hi.
Good Afternoon everyone.
Re: Good Afternoon everyone.
Things may have changed, but back when I originally played Ryzom Heavy Armor/Medium armor severely limited the range on your spells along with incurring a significant action/sap penalty.
So the general opinion was always cast in light armor or nothing at all versus casting in medium or heavy.
When I originally played medium armor wasn't used in any real degree other than by ranged weapon users which was slim to none.
It was always nukers/healers in light and melee users in heavy.
I'm reactivating my old acct. so I'm sure I'll be relearning alot of this stuff myself. I'm glad to hear your enjoying it.

Re: Good Afternoon everyone.
Heavy Armor (HA) has the most malus - which means that you will use significantly more stamina / health / sap (depending on how you set up your attacks), then if you were to be casting in Light Armor (LA)
Please note that this also affects crafting.
I was crafting a sword out of 150 dug mats, my sword lvl is 120.... I was getting 117 as a non-degraded item when I was wearing medium armor (MA). When I switched my armor to LA, I was consistently getting 120 as a non-degraded item. I did not try crafting in HA.

Congratulations, and welcome!aternox wrote:Well Ive been sucked in. I played the game for almost a month off and on, and so far Ive loved it.
You might not notice the difference at first, but because the penalty is a percentage, the higher you go the more noticable it will become. When I'm tanking in HA and cast a back-heal for my healer, the casting time, range, and stat consumption are horrendous.aternox wrote:I didn't notice a difference with casting speed or damage? In response to comments on MA, it's true that not so many use it, but I find it very convenient when I'm running about with new guildies doing a bit of whatever, as I can effectively tank, nuke, or heal in it as long as I'm not facing down an opponent near my limits. I also like it for dual-wielding, as the stat consumption is greatly reduced over HA.
Besides, I look pretty darn good in it!
