The focal point of the camera upon rotation is a bit ackward sometimes. For example, when trying to view your character (admiring that new HQ armor you just picked up *whistles*) it will focus on a higher pivot and cut off all but the character's head.
The anchor point, or the center point at which the camera stays focused on, seems to be well above my character's head. So, when I try and pan my camera to view my character, the camera cuts off his body and shows the upper half of his head.
This may not be the case for the taller characters, but as a Tryker it takes a lot away from the view.
Would placing the anchor point on the character's chest fix this? I'm a programmer, not an animator, so I don't know what aspect or attribute needs to be changed to do that.
Rotating Camera's Anchor Point
Re: Rotating Camera's Anchor Point
Open client.cfg and insert the following line
CameraHeight = 2.2;
That is the default, change it to lower numbers to lower it... higher to raise it. 2.2 is the default.

Re: Rotating Camera's Anchor Point
Excellent! Thanks for the tip tetra. I was AFK when you sent me that message in game. Sent you an in-game e-mail explaining my silence =)
Re: Rotating Camera's Anchor Point
I did this and now I am getting a "parse error." Ryzom config plus the game itself will not run anymore. I will have to do system restore or uninstall/reinstall. Either I did something wrong, or this is just a bad idea.tetra wrote:Open client.cfg and insert the following line

I opened up client.cfg with notepad, edited it by adding the CameraHeight line to the end, then saved and closed.
EDIT: It's not that catastrophic, after all. I just re-opened client.cfg and deleted the change, then saved and closed. Runs normal now.
I would like to change the camera height, so if you could tell me what I might've done wrong, I'd appreciate it.
FURTHER EDIT: For whatever reason, I am having to repatch everything after having fooled with this. That's after having undone the changes as described above, plus a system restore. For anyone who is thinking about doing this, I would suggest you think twice about it--especially if you're running on 56k, like me; repatching takes quite some time.

Well that's a bummer. Thanks for the warning. I guess the updater doesn't like people toying with the files manually, so it just repatches everything to ensure you aren't doing something you shouldn't =)
Re: Rotating Camera's Anchor Point
It works as prescribed, but it would probably be a good idea to make a backup copy of that file before editing it. Typo'ing something in the line or changing other lines could produce bad results.

In retrospect, I'm not sure if the patching was caused by that or because there was a mini-patch or something tonight. I've heard some rumors that there was one, so maybe that was it...? **shrug**
The advice to make a backup copy is good.

It seems it is just the version control getting messed up by daylight savings time.
