What's the actual difference between ranged and Bow-ranged?

And talking about pistols - is there any way to make this kind of ranged combat effective at all? Other thannumerous bullets and fast shots are there any actual advantages at high lvls?

hey I have been toying with ranged now for a while, but with rifles not pistols. as of now the only difference in a rifle and bowrifle is the look and the amount of mats to craft the ammo, which is interchangable anyhow.

I did find that at lower levels the damage was poor and not much worth it, but as i got a little higher its starting to change. I've been working on crafting more than fighting, but at about level 190 fight i was able to run and shoot solo the red named mobs outside of dyron(fimpon, nekothus,cherkin). I could not imagine being able to solo kill any of those with any other skill than ranged. I have my stanzas set pretty good to not use up stats too bad and can carry about 1700 bullets at a time so i think its a skill really worth trying out

As said the only difference between ranged and Bow-ranged is the amount of mats it takes to craft it. For example a HQ pistol takes 2/2/2/1 mats and a HQ bowpistol 2/2/2/2 mats. Because of this difference in mats, sometimes one recipee can get slightly better results than the other with the same mats.

Normal ammo you get 40 bullets for 4 mats, Bow-ammo you get 20 bullets for 6 mats, which is just silly.

After the crafting is done there's no difference anymore except for the looks.

As for the rifles vs pistols.... No, the only advantage pistols have over rifles is their faster firing rate, which gives more criticals and more interrupts. Rifles have a longer range, a higher damage per shot, a higher damage per minute, and less ammo consumption (less mats too).

Rifle ammo takes up more bulk than pistol ammo but the same weight, and the weight is usually the limiting factor. And since the weapon weight patch, rifles and pistols consume pretty much the same amount of stamina. (So at least pistols don't consume more anymore.) But pistols do ofcourse still consume more health, if you use health credits.

As for pistol's sole advantage, the faster firing rate... well, it can do 60 hpm against rifles 48 hpm, but 48 hpm is already quite high and certainly enough to interrupt any spell.

That's not to say pistols can't be effective though, they can be. But no, they'll never be -more- effective than a rifle.

There is one more advantage I know of and that is that you can fire a pistol while on a mek mount. I'm not sure what other forms of attack you could perform while on a mount.

Also, someone else mentioned before about having two pistols. Would be nice but the current game mechanics require that each ranged weapon be loaded by hand so one hand carries the ammo and the other holds and fires the weapon - which kind of makes all ranged weapons two handed.

Some interesting mechanic would have to be invented to allow two pistols. Perhaps a preload of 10 bullets and then a recharge penalty or something. We'll see.

Hehe, well the lore says you can, but the gamemechanics still say you can't. Would be sweet though.

GF's plan for revamping the lore included a new window for ammo, which sounded pretty cool, so that would free up the second hand for another pistol. They didn't say if they were actually planning to make dualwielding pistols possible though, it may be too hard to implement.

4. Cartridges (new concept)
Instead of using the left hand to select and use your ammo stacks, you will now use cartridges, which are displayed in a new window that you have to keep open when you use a range weapon. There are 3 cartridges in this window (AKA 3 ammo "slots"). The intent is to assign different types of ammo in each slot in order to quickly and easily switch from one kind to another (there is still a loading time involved). There will be a maximum quantity of ammo that can be put into a cartridge; i.e. you can't put a whole stack.
When you empty a cartridge, it will automatically refill if you have more of the same type of ammo in your bag (with a loading time).

Well at least dualwielding pistols would make them worth the while... And they could revamp bowpistol aswell by adding more range to it...
