Seriously, you are faultless, you are ryzom, if i was a bank manager i`d vote 'anissa' cause its the only way to vote :) , scar

I don't doubt that you are. ;) No apologies needed, I figured the biased hyperbolic style of your post was deliberately chosen to make that point, which I think it did very well. My first 3 paragraphs were really not meant to convey anything other than my agreement with that point. (With a little note added that I didn't feel anything that bad had come up in this particular thread yet.) But thank you for confirming it nonetheless. :) I hope it was clear the third paragraph was not directed at you, but just general advice for anyone and everyone.
iphdrunk wrote:so, although of course they need to make choices, they need to catter to at least a few playstyles (without precluding the valid idea that Ryzom should keep its uniqueness and not catter for *all* players, filling a niche).
That's a good summary of what I meant to say as well. I agree they need to catter to different play styles, but not to *all* play styles. Dev time doesn't need to be focused on a single feature, but it does need to be focused on some limited number of features. (And yes, I am inclined to think Ryzom's best bet would be to focus it on those features that can't already be found in a lot of other games. But I admit it's still a bet.)
iphdrunk wrote:I tend to think that we cannot pretend (it would be arrogant and condescending) to know *what* choices they would need to make
Yes, I agree. And I guess that was what you meant to say with your "attitude B" example? The main (actually, the only) point I was fighting your original post on, was that IMO it is not arrogant or condescending to speak up about what choices you would like them to make. ("I'd rather have live events...") Telling them what you think would be best is not necessarily the same as thinking you know what's best.

I can accept an addition that makes the game less fun for me but makes it more fun for 90% of the players, in fact I would think the devs crazy for not adding such an addition, but I would still make it clear I don't like the addition. If I wouldn't, and neither would anyone else, how would they even know if the addition is liked or not? I wouldn't expect them to take my opinion as anything more than the opinion of a single player amidst hundreds of player's opinions, but I do want them to know my opinion.

I admit, it may be a bit contradictory. I don't expect them to only make additions that I agree with, nor do I pretend that would be the best thing to do, but I still try to persuade them to do just that. :o
iphdrunk wrote:And the ideal situation would be not to play other games... :o
I'll end this with disagreeing again though. :p I think that even in the ideal situation that Ryzom were to bring out so many content additions that it was virtually impossible to 'run out of content', I would still be trying other games. If only to try something different for a change and to see what else is out there. But I can ofcourse only speak for myself here. :)

This thread is a perfect example of why I have found this online community to be one of the finest, most pleasant groups with which I have ever interacted. Definitely THE best gaming community, and on par with the best in any category.

I truly hope that the next set of owners is organizationally astute enough to take advantage of the well-considered and honest ideas put forth in many of the threads in this forum.

But I suppose I am "preaching to the choir", not to mention being redundant.

To return to the original topic - despite the current status of the game, I feel it certainly deserves its high ranking even as is. It may not appeal to everyone, but for those who find it a good match for their interests, it is the top of the heap. And well worth some investment and renewed development.

I'd like to unearth this thread of Gilga's and ask people this:

To everyone that never rated Ryzom at www.mmorpg.com, please do it!

The actual rating is not bad considering the status of the game, but a better one could give more chance for Ryzom to receive a still bigger audience in the near future...

Let's get down to voting fellas... Also CoH rating better than Ryzom simply don't feel right :P

You can cast your vote here: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/36/view/ratings

By the way, before I posted my own MMORPG thread, I had not noticed this thread here. Sorry.

Still thinking about doing a full 3d rendering of Fyros (call it Ryzom 3.0 if you like).
