Wow I got all kinds of answers to my stupid question :D .

Thanks for all the replys. I must say that my play style is very much like Lupine04, I can't level for the sake of just getting to a higher level. I need more of a reason than that to play.

From what I gather then, it is level up to join in the fray of outposts, NPC groups, and Kitin and other fun stuff. But that some of it isn't in game yet. Well let's hope they get it in soon because it does sound promising if they pull it off.

And apartments?? The manual said a home or house.

I think the "point" of any game is up to the individual player. There IS a back story, and alot more of it is out there than some seem to think, you just have to read all of it, which...granted...takes time.

If you are a crafty type that enjoys the fruits of your labors, then there is that for you. If you are PURELY adventure (I hate the saying, but you hear it ALL the time "I don't DO crafting" with PURE insult for those that do. Well dear that is fine I do do crafting, you can buy the gear I make, for a price. *sniff*). There is mage, or fighter, or both. You can simply level fighter or mage to protect yourself in the hostile world, or...you can find a guild and have them protect you, for the price of supplying their gear with what you collect.

You can solo, but I personally find that as boring as filing my taxes. I highly recommend a group, make some friends and group regularly. Grouping in this game pays off...BIG time.

There will be more invasions in the future and more patches with story line and "quests" which I have to wonder exactly WHAT the difference between a mission and a quest is. *shrug* I doubt you can have a NO kill quest, and what would the point of gathering materials for an item be? Unless it was something special and equipable, and visable, and then crafters would riot in the streets. *hides torch and picket sign* *clears throat*

THANKFULLY this game has TONS of content NOT aimed at ONLY the guilds over 250 members at the TOP levels, AKA the Ubber guild. I hated that about EQ, many of us did, we would buy the expansion and find out a week later that 85% of the new content was ONLY for capped levels and HUGE serger guild sizes. Or that all the new zones, or most of them were keyed and getting those keys would take months, at least.

I honestly do NOT see this game going there, thank GOODNESS!

I see ONE thing this game has that MANY or most other games do NOT have, community. Starting in beta, which I wasn't TOO surprised about it then, and continuely after release; this game has had and continues to have a WARM mature friendly and helpful (for the most part) playerbase.

My friends list is getting Voluminous, and I am not that much of a popular type person. It is easy to make friends and most will remember you even a month later.

So... the POINT of the game...for me is, make new friends, keep the old (UGH girl scout song time, sorry) explore, make new items, learn things about real life through playing the game. What I learned lately is...not everyone is mean, and there ARE roses out there, if you take the time to look.

This game is MUCH deeper than any other game...short of Earth and Beyond... that I have ever played. EQ, WHAT story line?? The Realm didn't even really have much of a story line, other than the main starter town having been toasted by "the gods" at war with each other. EnB had a storyline, shame it was a slave to it at all costs. Horizons has a storyline, shame THEY are a slave to it...again at all costs.

SO when the storyline in THIS game moves a bit slower than a 30 minute action show, but bugs are addressed...maybe we should count our blessings and see that as what is going to SAVE this game from the fates of other similarly visionary games.

*sorry for the short story*

I couldn't agree more. This game has what??? A FUTURE to it. What we can do now is going to be...looking back two or three years from now...less than HALF what we will be able to do later.

I remember reading somewhere about plans for another planet, and one only has to LOOK UP to see it is already there. Only need to code it and populate it. I only hope it isn't a pay for expansion the likes of EQ.

Also with the branches growing overhead...I can't HELP but think, Hmm are those growing? And if they are...what is going to happen when they grow together? And umm how do I get UP there, there HAS to be resources up there and I want to find them. And what lives up there?

Plus, the Karavan DO know how to travel off the planet, I have NO doubt of that. And there are SIGNS of interplanetary travel in the prime roots, from the screenies that have been posted to this very forum. Hmm is it possible that EACH race might find a clue...that when we ALL put them together BINGO, new technology? Hmmm makes one wonder doesn't it.

The game is young, it WILL evolve, just like every other online multi player out there. And I for one can't WAIT to be a part of this unfolding.

Seriously though, I think alot of the fun will be to take over outposts and defend the land from kitins. Another aspect will be to find more about the past of the planet and discover why the kitins invaded. What are the purposes of the kami and the karavan? What is the source of the magic behind the sap? What are the origins of the 4 homin races? How can evolution develop such radically different groups on a planet and separate them into neat little zones connected by portals? Is the world really just a giant spaceship? An alien habitat?

Will we discover new technology? The ability to craft more technologically advanced devices like toasters and speedbikes? What about better weapons? Energy blades? force pikes? Laser rifles? hovercraft? orbital shuttle? The ability to travel into space and mine the moon? The game is so open ended in potential that who knows whats going to happen next. In a game like this, is there really any need for an objective? Would we ever need to "Win" the game?

I just had an epiphany. When I buy a car, it shouldn't have a motor, nor should the house I buy have a roof. But those are large investments. Lets talk about the smaller things, how about rum that doesn't get me drunk? A blender without blades, or sneakers that don't sneak?

I'm not bashing the game here, though I have a little in the past. But given that this isn't some huge life important nessecity to some of us, we try to reap what joy we can out of things while we still have time.

If this were Sony's product, or Blizzard's, I'd set the boards aflame like a Polk Street Disco on Friday night. Seeing as Nevrax doesn't have a track record, I'm much more patient with them. Largley because, it's a game, and though I play a lot because it's still shiny, I can drop it at any time. There's also lots of potential...but that doesn't mean it's going to work out. I'm on the board a lot because though, but our servers at work SUCK.

I think it is pretty well up to you to determine what the point of it is to you. It means different things to different people and the game has room for that.

I like the sense of exploration and hope to participate in things like outpost defense.

I am finding the fact that no one really wants all of the materials I harvest a bit frustrating. I am left to either sell them to NPCs for meaningless cash or craft myself. I am counting on the vendor system to fix this so that the Material I gather actually gets put to use. If not, that might be a game breaker for me.

First person to do that will be awarded the Medal of Stupidity by Nevrax.

The "object" of SOR is to frustrate you to the point of no return. To make you delve into the possible motives a bunch of Frenchman could possibly have had to release such a pointless, waste of time. But hey don't take my word for it. In 1 month you will be playing this game with the European server..because they will be forced to merge the American and European server after everyone has left to pursue other games that are actually "fun". Stick around for 1 month. Log on...do a /who...then send a tell to your favorite French player..who won't speak English, and will ignore you anyway. Starting to get the picture? I have never considered myself a "predictor of future events." However this games death knoll is just 2 weeks away. So theres the "object" of SOR...stick around..and enjoy..just makes the servers of WOW and EQ2 that much less conjested...enjoy :D
