For our perfectionists - a small (and sometimes not so small) detail I noticed.
Often different materials "resonate" with each other. For example, my supreme amber staffs can have stats from 82/82 till 97/97, depanding which mats I am using for grip and shaft.
Only thought this is happening with staffs, but I noticed it with light armor now, too. Making that one with maximized dodge. Now, when I use excellent visc sap (with some other dodge-boni mats, of cource) I get 97% max dodge. When I use supreme redhot or enola instead (which do NOT have a maxed dodging bonus like excellent visc sap has) I get 99% max dodge.
Nothing to write home about (exept with the staffs), but it is still interesting. From what I experienced so far it is
- not related to quality (get the 97/97 with my staffs not by using supreme shaft/grips)
- not related to using a mix of mats or the same ones (can get the 97/97 by using the same mat/shaft mats or a mix of several)

Re: Mat resonances
I agree but I still cant get the correct mix for 97/97 staffs.

Re: Mat resonances
As usual shrike your right, we haven't put our finger on it yet but a mix somehow produces better results even if it doesn't seem possible. Sometimes the difference between a 100% weapon and a 99% weapon is merely not having all the same mat types used in all slots. It's very odd, but haven't got the exact reasoning behind it yet.

Re: Mat resonances
I've been doing a bit of trial and error with some different types of choices mats when crafting q50 2handed swords and q50 Heavy vests.
I'll put the results up when i get home from work

Re: Mat resonances
Thats odd, I use visc sap and get 99% dodge all the time. I think it is the other mats you are using that is holding it down.
Re: Mat resonances
I found part of the issue with magic amps...DO NOT use Choice or excellent shaft materials....it LOWERS the stats of the amber. This was ticketed while I was leveling my Matisian alt, and the gm said it is now on the "to be fixed" list, well that was a week ago I think.
Any way, with patch one, this issue is more than likely moot anyway. Just wanted to shed a little light on this one. I DID test it, I had Q 20 mats, enough for ALL choice healer stick (hash amber) and Enough basic store bought shafts for the test. WITH the choice, 97% heal speed, with the BASIC 100%. *boggle* By the way, this bug is STILL in effect and NOT just on noobie. I made a Q40 staff, and tested it with choice bark and basic gingo bone, the bone made a 100% speed healer, and 60 something % power, the choice bark was 90% and 55%. UGH
The perfectionist in me is HEARTSICK, but the practicalist says Bring it.
It is like the time I was making a set of Protection rating ONLY light armor in newbie land, and had ALMOST enough choice mats to make ONE more set of boots, except for the clip, BUT I had a stack of Gingo ligaments. (DUH those stupid dogs just don't know when to call it quits).
When I found that I could push the protection rating OVER 11% using a BASIC material...I almost threw up! Since this point, I hold on to ANY Q number that I would use (normally my top level and ten points under for grinding purposes) and toss this and that into the mix...JUST in CASE.
(I have found that EVEN with dropped mats, grade DOES matter in the stats, For instance, if I have Q20 FINE gingo ligament and Q69 BASIC gingo ligament...The Q20 will have more of an effect than the Q69, due to grade.)
That is one thing about this crafting system, it makes you THINK. You can not assume a BLOOMING thang about it. If you do WEEE Curve ball.
