Do you want the game to survive at any cost?

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Yes, I do want Ryzom to survive at any cost to the game. My vote against wipes and merges is just because I don't think it'd help with that in the long run. Now making it free-to-play, that I can see helping the game survive. But what do I know of MMO-marketing really? If a wipe and a merge are (in some way that's beyond my limited understanding) the only thing that can save the game from another year of slowly dieing, then go for it.

But would I myself continue playing it? Yes, I would, at least, at first. If only because I prefer to stay in this community rather than joining a new one. But every player that doesn't continue is one less to keep me here. And as unique as Ryzom still is, there are other MMOs being released all the time. The more of Ryzom is sacrificed to keep it alive, the bigger the chance another MMO is going to appeal to me more.

I play Ryzom both because it's the best game and because it has the best community. Take either of that away and I'd still play. But take both away and I'd be gone too.

Amen. To elaborate on my post - i'd stay ONLY assuming the majority of the community remains around - with too many people leaving though, i'd be gone myself.

I'll give any interration of Ryzom a try.
However I'ld like Ryzom back just as it was when the servers went down.
As for new content, the Ring, and official events -- I couldn't care less for the first year or so.
I'm willing to be patient and give the new owners time to develop a winning strategy for making Ryzom successful -- including a few missteps here and there.
But the game needs to be playable -- no great lag or too many disconnects.
As for Free to Play -- how are the owners going to get revenue? Make us buy Boss spawns with real money, lol?

If the new owner wants to patch together a server in his mom's basement or attic -- fine by me if the game is playable.

Really the new owners need to make a few official statements like who they are, what's going on right now, when Ryzom will be back up, their short term vision, and their long term vision. Heck I don't even really know if Ryzom has been bought.

You seem to base your thinking on the idea that Ryzom would fail again if it did not change dramatically and i think this is wrong.
The first failure was almost inevitable given the bad timing and the lack of financial muscle of Nevrax.
The second one was due to the fact Gameforge did not even try to make it profitable.
The two failures had nothing to do with the game itself.
Ryzom is a unique game that has more than enough qualities to survive without having to change too much.
Why is it so hard to conceive that there are enough potential players out there that would love the game in its original form?
WoW, EQ2, L2, as well as a host of F2P games have been around for years and players are getting tired of them and want something different...and thats something that Ryzom can deliver easily.

Its the same question in other words, so I´ll just crosslink, no time to repeat myself endlessly, sorry. :p

But would not play a P2P, nope. Sorry. Never.

I wasn't just referring to the financial cost.

All the things we have discussed recently: Server wipes, server merges, F2P, item shops ... THIS sort of thing may be too high a price to pay. To have our world returned only to find it has been changed beyond all recognition ... I would rather keep the good memories I have than play something that only looks the same.

Couldn't agree more. Which takes us back to all the things we were saying on one of the first threads begun here following the"back soon" message, namely MARKETING MARKETING MARKETING!
3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.

No - not if the cost is that the game becomes quest-driven or if it changes the emphasis on crafting by allowing drops other than materials used in crafting. If I want that I can just go back to WoW.

After the SWG fiasco I don't think anyone is eager to "pull out a smedley" anytime soon and do major changes to the game mechanics..

Just for the record, I won't stay if the game becomes quest driven or if any sort of rewards replace crafted items.

I don't care how, just bring Ryzom back

Post by olepi »

I actually don't really care whether you save the old toons, keep the old Outposts, or start over, I just want Atys back! I went to Cho just to see a new world, and I wouldn't mind seeing it again; or, re-instate something from the other servers, I don't care. I don't mind if you merge the servers, wipe the servers, or marry the servers LOL

Just bring Ryzom back!
