Do you want the wipe, and why?

Re: Server Wipe
It would be not a problem for me to restart from scratch, anyway I voted 'no' and the reason is really well explained by Dentom in this post at mmorpg.com:
Dentom's post at mmorpg.com
He wrote the original post in the Ryzom's german forum.
I think he expressed well his reason, and I agree with him.

Re: Server Wipe
No, but if they decide to do a wipe, they should rename the servers, so that we have a "clean" environment to play in (and so we can refer to pre-wipe by server-name).

I only can say: Think twice! Think threefold. Think fourfold before you call for the wipe of our history, the world we've built, the virtual persons that we've become, the Saga of Ryzom that we wrote, we shaped, we gave heart and soul.
There's the world and there are the homins. Think fourfold before cutting one half of the emotional bond, consisting of our history, our memories, our friendslists, our souvenirs of old friends, passed lovers and enemies, destroying the chance for good old friends to come back and to find their guilds and friendslists that make them smile when they log in, that make them feel home again.
Think fourfold about temporary effects of a wipe, about long-term players and their faith in the company. About old knowledge and old wine in new bottles. About replay instead of play. About not bringing back the "old" days for old players with a wipe. Compare advertising and new content to playing the same content again and repelling old players without attracting new one by advertisment like: "We just wiped all data of our long-term-customers. Enjoy. Maybe you get the chance to be wiped too when you played three years."
Think about changing the conditions a bit? Shifting a mountain to the left and a lake to the right, changing visc with enola sap and spawning Wombai's instead of Bolobis to make it "fresh" for the *old* players? Invest the time and manpower into longer-lasting content instead of manipulating things that work already for old and new players.
Kicking your most loyal customers in the butt for a short-term effect of one or two months to possibly attract some newbies that would start under no circumstances on a non-wiped server? There are better ways to attract new players - without getting 90% of your existing playerbase angry. No dangerous experiments of THIS kind in this critical state. What kind of silly marketing strategy would this be?

Re: Server Wipe
I voted no because it took a long time for me to get my Forest dig to 250. Not to mention getting Celestial Guardian.
In all seriousness though. I've put a good 2.5 years or so (maybe more, i'm bad with time) into Ryzom. Not just my time put into leveling my character, but the RP storyline behind Keiko and the pain and joy I've experienced with her.
There are many things I would love to forget (as would she). But, what we have experienced on Atys has helped us to grow into who we are.
I can't imagine just having it all wiped away. I'm not a hard core role player by any means, but almost every action I've taken as a player, has helped to build Keiko, and I've got a connection with her that I can never get with other characters I may create.
I'm not sure if that makes a lot of sense, especially since Keiko is just an avatar in ever logical way.
And omg, I just looked at that link Glilga posted, after typing all that, and that's what I'm trying to say.
I do not want a wipe. But if there is a necessity for a wipe, I'll try to restart. I can't guarentee i'll be able to stay though.

Re: Server Wipe
Totally agree with the above post (Denton's - Keiko posted while I was writing but ditto everything she said as well ). If the data has been lost, then so be it, nothing to be done, but voluntarily? I'd rather gnaw my own leg off. Then hop away as fast as my wee pins can carry me and wait for WELL.online.
To all those beta players who mourn the old days before faction wars, OPs etc, I say to you that there are just as many of us who weren't there and quite like it how it is thank you very much. You can't miss what you never had. I don't mean to be offensive but the factions are MEANT to be at war. That's the point.
If you wanna be friends with your old mates who now find themselves on the opposing side then I'm sure you can reconcile that particular dilemma in a mature and logical manner and understand that there is no conflict between being on opposing sides on the battlefield but still mates when the blood has dried.
Oddly though, ( and again sorry if I'm ruffling feathers here) it seems to me that a lot of the ppl who complain loudest and most frequently about the loss of the pre-war "old days" are those most into the PvP aspect of the game. Go figure.

3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.

Re: Server Wipe
I voted NO...and the reason being is as people said it changes the whole game that over the years we have worked to create. Yes things can change and we can rebuild, however, that's not what we want to do. As a whole community i see that the majority on here want to restart as they were with the friends and the skills we have worked hard to achieve. Personally i think the best part of the game is the community that you find in Ryzom, and if everyone comes back to play then guess what...it will still be there and be the best part of the game so whether we wipe the servers or not we will still have fun and forge alliances. So don't get all riled up over something that hasn't happened yet.
Also if we do wipe the servers you have to ask yourself this question...do we fight the temple wars again? Do we fight the Kitin Invasion again? Do we fight the Exterminators again? Those are all main events that are based on a storyline that is evolving and if we reset the sever then we start back at the beginning, or they just wipe the logon server and wipe the characters and start from scratch on the character level but keep the story line progessing as normal. just alittle to think on.

Re: Server Wipe
yes because - on a personal note - first time i grund like mad because our entire guild was newborn, and i'd love to grind it all back in some 6 years (honestly, that's how I feel).
and because - on a more general note - this will keep players busy while devs, owners etc have the time to organise and have something worked out

Re: Server Wipe
I think that the original plan called for a type of server wipe. It is my guess that the characters we are playing were never intended to leave Atys. I suspect that the plan was for our children to leave our beloved rootball for the proposed outwordly expansions. That would allow for fresh starts keeping the history separate but inline with Atys. Meaning, you would not have to dig 3 million ambers to get half a level and if new players wanted to skip of a world, they could jump right in.
_______________
The original Saga concept was based on the ability to expand the game quickly. Atys was supposedly going to have 90+ levels of roots. I don't think the current level cap would be in place with that kind of expansion. That is why we have the brick skill system. There are no balance issues with adding levels or even entirely new skill trees. The game we were playing was just a tiny slice of what was planned.
If the goal is to make a sustainable and profitable game, I would be very surprised if the Kitin lair, additions to the encyclopedia, and some improvements to the ring for developmental purposes were not part of the re-release. I am quite sure that within our community (assuming the new owners can't) we can come up with a way to bridge the story lines from the past with the new adventures to come.
If the game is to survive, a server wipe should be completely pointless. Most importantly, there really can not be a wipe. We know each other, we are not going to forget the past. Our new characters will not be new, they will be shadows from another unforgettable Saga.

I voted no, and as mentioned above, there is quite alot of history for me in my character and all the RP that has helped creating whom she is today. There have been many fun and friendly hours playing, and in a way, for me, she is a proof of all the great fun I have had, and look forward to have with you all again.
