by the sounds of it the skill tree branches that a character already has remain unchangeable, just the actual skills can be changed?
In other words a jeweller cant just forget jewellry and head up say the pike branch with all his SP's?
patch1 - skill levels stay put?
Re: patch1 - skill levels stay put?
True. But you would have a leg up on a new crafter. You could spend your craft points on pike plans and you could obviously buy weapon crafting 1 and 2 right out of the gate. From there you could start grinding weapons and use your old points (from jewelry) to buy new patterns and what ever bonuses you wanted.kamagi wrote:by the sounds of it the skill tree branches that a character already has remain unchangeable, just the actual skills can be changed?

They way I read it is that you will have your levels available, but be reset back to the basic 3 packs you started with. The article I read also had them saying that it would then allow everyone to rethink the best way to specialize their characters. I take that to mean you can use those points to go down any branch you choose up to the maximum that you were previously at. Of course, this is only how I'm reading it. I hope I'm right.kamagi wrote:by the sounds of it the skill tree branches that a character already has remain unchangeable, just the actual skills can be changed?

I'm just going to plan on taking that day off, reviewing the various rants and raves here, then hitting up a trainer.

Re: patch1 - skill levels stay put?
Basically all character stats will return to the the state you have when you are a new player. So if you got to level 70 harvest for example, you will have 700 skill points in harvest to spend (70X10 each level). Player HP, Stamnia, Sap, and Focus will also be reset to level 1 as they were incresed through the use of skill points. So before you log off on the second, write down what your level are!
Re: patch1 - skill levels stay put?
No. Your skill lvls will stay exactly the same - you can only relocate your SP.kamagi wrote:by the sounds of it the skill tree branches that a character already has remain unchangeable, just the actual skills can be changed?

In short, it's like if you would have lvled all your skill trees to their current lvl without going to the trainer once.
690 Sp actually, since you start at lvl 1 (with 0 SP). Anyone wants to take bets how many "I have 10 SP too little in each skill" postings will be there after patch 1?raynes wrote:... Re: patch1 - skill levels stay put?
Sounds like there is some confusion here - some people think that skill branches will be reset and others think that the branch levels will remain.
Re: patch1 - skill levels stay put?
Ok the way SP works is that you gain them by working the Individual tree branches, BUT the sp CAN be spent in ANY branch of that same tree.
For instance, I gained levels in fighter last night, Three DIFFERENT skill trees of it. I bought some GENERAL skills and upgrades (hp stamina and regen for both) AND some most specialized to each skill, but I was NOT given a warning like this "you have spent ALL your close combat sp, you can not buy this skill" or anything like that.
I also gained THREE craft levels, mostly in weapons crafting, BUT I chose to spend the sp on a new armor form I have been needing. I still have to gain level 50 to buy the Modi forms, BUT...once I do...I can grind out weaponsmithing levels to gain those forms.
And Magic, I gained numerous levels over the last three days, and spent them without thinking about which tree they came from. I bought healing upgrades and acid upgrades and HP credits among other things. And ALOT of the levels I gained were Def magic, but some were Off mage.
I tend to generalize my skills. I will NEVER be the end all be all of anything, but I don't feel the NEED to be that. I want to be able to supply MYSELF with gear, and what ever else I can make I will sell to others.
YES if you are a level 52 1handed fighter, the day the reset comes... you will STILL be a level 52 1handed fighter...with ALL the sp that that level will have gained at that point.
********
I REPEAT my suggestion, and have already done this for MY character, Sit down before the patch, write down what you USE, I mean the actions you mash when push comes to shove. Test OUT any that you are curious about but not sure and write down THOSE results. Write down ANY skills you feel, in your experience, were a waste of your sp.
*******(added for emphasis)
Then on the day of the patch READ those skills, ALL of your choices. Figure out ALL the ways you can economize spending them. Think about it as a two for one sale. The player that comes out of the trainer with the MOST skill for the SP is the Winner!
I am not SURE at ALL what is going to be happening to my magic branch. I have seen MANY skills in use that I am currious about and want to use myself. And if the point costs are low enough...who knows...I might need a more ballanced amp than the one I currently have.
And some harvesters are up in arms about these changes. I for one am all FOR the ability to better control explosions and gas. It does NOT make sense that I am approaching level 75 quickly, and have NO idea how to control these dangers on my OWN? As a real life miner...I wouldn't live very long, and real life has NO respawn. I use gentle quality ALL the time, but trying to use speed OR rate has gotten me killed MORE than the aggressive skills.
I have had the ablity to gain MORE than one unit per node, but I have also seen areas exhaust even after sitting and NOT getting the message saying that I did that, and PLENTY of life line left. It is highly disappointing to fight with this one issue.
(Yes folks, I am a crafter in real life. And I KNOW that gathering materials from nature and processing them into something you can use or admire CAN be done without stip mining or deforestation. And you CAN use care and spend the time to get it RIGHT, almost perfect everytime.)

Re: patch1 - skill levels stay put?
shrug - got to level 142 forage and have had very little problems with gas or explosions and I dont even use the source reset macro idea. I have a ping of 450-650 and I just watch the bars and react appropriately.
