I had started a similar thread on Virtual Citizenship Association but since the Ryzom forums are back, then I figured it would be a preferable to do it here.
If Ryzom does come back, I think one of the first issues to adress would be the advertisment/marketing problem. I mean, if you want to sell a game you strongly believe in, you have to announce it to the world, right ? Well I hardly saw any advertisement about Ryzom before discovering it. In fact, I learned about Ryzom by pure luck. So if your game advertisement isn't reaching all the proper potential players, then you have a problem : not getting enough players to sustain a constant development process and decent profit.
Therefore, to help whomever will be in charge of reviving Ryzom, I strongly believe if they can find out how the majority of people found out about Ryzom, would help them figure out that they might have a problem and adress it.
By the way, I live in Canada.
So for that purpose, I am starting a poll and would like to have all Ryzom players tell us how they found out about Ryzom and vote on my Poll.
P.S. : please do not simply read/reply to this thread, GO VOTE ! On Virtual Citizenship I had over 1000 readers but only 30 voted !

Still thinking about doing a full 3d rendering of Fyros (call it Ryzom 3.0 if you like).

I played it in Alpha and Beta then stopped because I didn't have a way to pay. Came back 2 years ago. I found out about it through a magazine, think it might have been PC gamer or Computer games magazine.

Found a box set in a branch of Game for £2.98 one day and it said it had a month free, so I thought "what's the worst that can happen ...?!" Little did I know, lol. I had never heard of it before, ever, but then I was never into MMO's or online gaming before Ryzom, so that's not really relevent to how well it was advertised I guess.
3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.

Heard of it from a friend, who I think heard of it from a friend, who probably heard of it from a friend.

As already said in the past, this is how i found Ryzom:
November 2004, I go to buy EQ2 at a shop in my town. Casually this shop is part of a french franchise, fnac (i live in Italy). That's important because most probably it was the only shop with a Ryzom box available.
Once i was in the shop, while i was looking at several boxes (and found the collector's edition of EQ2) my eyes were catched by Ryzom box.
I was so impressed by the cover and from what i found written there, in a very well translated italian language, that i decided to buy both the games.
Well, i played EQ2 very few and closed the sub after 3 months, while i played Ryzom, well you know.... till the server closed (with a couple of breaks, one break unfortunately was just few days before The Temple event started, so i missed it).
Ryzom is the only game i bought 'blinded'. Pure luck.

I played in open beta, I found out about it through a website, ( i have no idea the name now) but it listed games in beta stages that you could try and test. I had a slow pc and never had the patience to report any issues due to the slow process. COnsequently the game went into closed beta with a select group of beta testers, I was not one of them. When the game launced in September 2005(?) I still ha s a pc too slow to play, I joined in January 2006 with a new pc.

Saw an advertisement in a local PC-Gaming Magazine, then later saw an add on the nett and these by Scott Kurtz and John Kovalic.
Sought the website, read about it, found it interesting. Went shopping and stumbled upon its last copy at a local store, bought it and the rest is history

For me it was random chance saw it advertised on ctrl-alt-del comic. Tried the free trial and loved it. Didn't even mind paying the subscription.
