GM : So, you have an hour before Player B returns, what do you do ?
Player A : I want to dig jewel mats !
GM : @*&$%&£ !!! *grabs his bag of dices*
Player B : *throws a d6 at you*
D6 : *hits you on the forehead for 3 damage*
I don't see what you're talking about ! :D

I was all for this, until I read this statement.

I suppose you feel your cause is more noble than Xavier's bunch? (Which, ultimately, is a bunch of ex-Nevrax employees and Ryzom players such as ourselves).

Turning away your primary market is bad marketing.. :p

I play Ryzom for the people, the politics, the randomass DP hunts, and the beautiful graphics and mechanics. The lore and setting are intricate and fascinating, and I adore that aspect - but not enough to play P&P. Best of luck with this Acri, Atys will never die. :)

What she said :)

But in essence my experience with P&P, is that it is quest/dungeon based, eg. You enter a dungeon so wide x so long and blah blah blah. etc.

I cannt see how Ryzom can be encompassed in that sphere, it had neither dungeons or quests.

On saying that I never RP'd in Ryzom, so what do I know :)

*logs in*

Well, I did P&P twice last year for the first time in quite a few years, as I don't have a group. Also, none of those I love playing Ryzom with is in an easily available distance, being either scattered all over Germany or even living in the US or Singapore, so a P&P book might be a nice (and rather melancholic) reminiscence of the past but won't save even the tiniest bit of Ryzom for me.

Sorry for moping.

Well, PnP can be very much more than just a Dungeon crawl.
I´m doing it for about 20 Years now and I´ve "visited" worlds stranger and more mundane that Atys ;)
PnP can be politics, battle, adventure, emotion and much more, if you just take the time to come up with a good story to tell.
In most modern PnPs (mainly White Wolfs Products) the GM is called Storyteller because thats what he does. And the players help telling that story, their story, of high adventure or dark political intrigue.
As a Storyteller you just have to know what your players like and expect from a session.
And you are able to fit eachs seesions pace and mood to your players preferences.

The longest ongoing story I played was over four years, almost every Saturday. We had amazingly emotional, simply enthralling and some very funny moments. PnP is as much about FUN as anything else.
And the good thing is, you don´t sit at home and stare at a screen. Nope, you sit at home on the couch, or on a blanket in the garden, or at a friends home in the attic, whatever you like, you have some snacks nearby, some nice drinks, some nice and fitting music and most importantly Friends!
You play with people you see, you see them "acting" their charakters (verbaly, but LARP is an option too) you see your Storyteller portraying a plethora of different charakters and if he or she is a good Storyteller you´ll be avle to tell these apart by manner of speaking, or behaviour or whatnot.

PnP is amazing fun, just as Online Gameing is, as parent and child they are equals, with daddy for the most part giving his experience to his son, as it should be in any good family ;)
