Thanks, I've enjoyed the ride, but...

Post by theswamper »

This is the first time I've checked the forums out in about a week and didn't have a clue about the problems that many are referring to. I'm still not sure what the problem is.

This could be because I haven't logged in in a few days. This game has some cool features lacking in other games but...

Why do mission givers on the ML have no signal to indicate they have missions? Why are the rewards so crappy? I don't need some uber item but 840 dappers? Come on!

It would take minimal effort to add such markers over quest givers. Also, about half the time I'm told to go talk to so and so, I'm given little to no information about where so and so is? Why? Honestly, in RL if someone asked you to talk to someone else, would you not ask them where that someone else might be?

This game has, by far, the coolest crafting system I've ever seen. It also has a great method of character advancement, with tons of skills available and the freedom to choose which given to the player. I find, though, that without obvious goals (which can be ignored if a player so chooses), the game is just one long grind. Whether it's grinding foraging or fighting, it's still a grind for largely intangible reasons. The game needs goals. Obvious, in your face goals.

Anyway, I've enjoyed my 8 weeks or so with the game and wish everyone the best. The game had the friendliest community I've ever seen in an MMO.

The point of this type of game is that you make your own goals.

There are plenty of other games with obvious, in-your-face goals. Ryzom doesn't need to join them.

The last thing I wanted was to start flames. The point of NO game is to make your own goals, it is to have fun. I'm not asking that they add more content, just that they make some of that content (missions) easier to be aware of and find out about. Besides, please explain to me how making these utterly optional changes would lessen someone else's gaming experience?

Not to sound negative, but with the dirge of MMOs currently available, there are NO truly successful sandbox MMOs.

Besides, look at the current sub numbers. Ryzom certainly does need something.

1.rectification:no ORDINARY game
2.Tell me how a challenge and hard work can lessen your gamingexpierience
3.Depends what u are looking for, succes is different as 'easy victory'

In my opinion this is the most succesfull game I ever played. And the challenge of creativity is yours to take. The difficulty of the missions are reduced in groupwork,so in a way the reward is balanced.
I agree it ain't easy all the time, but u will apreciate more the value of the work, and the satisfaction in this game will be more as u expected.
The real succes is measured in playingtime of our playerbase and not therefor in numbers. With the goals u choose ,u choose your own quality.

Personally i dont like games that tell u what and when to do anything :P
Here u dont need to run around for a mission to get an ubber sword...u ask kindly on region chat and 4 peeps will come to sort u out using the mats they gathered digging and hunting... u wont see that in many places

In the hope that somehow Ryzom does come through this, I will respond here.

"quest givers" do have indicators showing they are quest givers.. its the title..
Welcomer, Corporal, Outland Supplier, Patroller, Prospector..there are actually quite a lot of different people offering missions, and all you need to do is talk to them to find out what they want. Generally they give a hint where the target is ( if it is a person), but the hint may just be the region they are in.. but if it says the region, then they will be in the countryside, not a town.
The real benefit of the missions, is exploring and learning where particular NPCs hang out, or specific mobs. You dont get that with gaint glowing exclamation marks floating over the heads of the mission givers, directional arrows appearing on your compass, and unique markes highlighting the objective. Lets face it, thats as challenging as going to the shop for a loaf of bread. Other so-called quest based games do seem to operate that way. You are given a shopping list of things to kill, you do it, then you get another list.
etc.
ad infinitum.
The mechanism does exist in ryzom, but it isnt tied to character advancement... In Ryzom, you had to make your OWN list !!1!!1
