I will confess to being bitter about the situation, but it seems to me that GF have "succeeded" in their objective. It now appears they never had any intention of allowing Ryzom to become a success. While they cannot publicly state that they bought the game with no concern for the players, their lack of advertising and developmental support has provided fertile ground for conspiracy theories.

I'm not so sure, of course I try to imagine people are good, which isn't always true. But, it seems that after getting Ryzom, GF came to realization that the sub-base was lowered than foretold and then they had legal issues with getting the devs to be able to work on the code. So, they have less income than expected and horribly delayed development and they just didn't have enough capital to ride it all out.

In the first run of this promotion assuming that only 1/2 of the players would participate total from the original crop and we half that each time as interest wanes.

We increased the population and the monthly budget to keep regular updates going. Of course it is just an estimation but it's a plan that may have worked better than not changing the structure that they already knew wasn't working when the project were purchased.
