Hidden Powers in PvP - The Healer

Post by cielchan »

Let us talk about a group of people that work really hard and hardly anyone notices. The Healer!

What is fun at PvP? To battle your arch-enemies as Meleer, Magician or Artillery, to move around freely, enjoy the battle. Afterwards stuff is said like "the battle today was so much fun!", "wow, did you see <person> from <faction>? wasn't he/she just awesome at the OP today?" or "haha I killed <person> so many times, it was great fun".

But who kept him up? A healer!

How many times did I hear words like "Move up healers", "Need more heals", "Damn healers", "Where are all our healers?", "Sorry, couldn't do a thing didn't get any heals.", "Heal better, faster, more."

Sounds familiar? Yep, how often did you get praised for your hard work as a healer? How often did you get scolded from a Melee/Nuker because he/she moved out of healing range but YOU didn't heal? How many associate your name as a "Great Healer" at an OP? The word itself is a joke, a Great OP Healer. But there are great Meleers, Nukers, Rangers. Just no healers.

So my point is, why even bother and become a healer with all your heart and soul if nobody really appreciates your work? Why is everyone taking heals as given and not thinking about how hard this is?

What is your view on this? Do you completely disagree? Agree? Let's discuss!

But i see where you are coming from :)

Though i run around with my sister following me tossing any heal i need, and she never complains ;)

Though i will show my thanks, its because of her(and others) that we are usually the last to go down (on the RARE occasion we're going down :p )

So THANKYOU HEALERS YOUR'RE AWESOME!
now shut up and heal me dammit!

Because all I have to do are watch team window bars and system info for when to run from a nuker/launcher/melee? :p

But seriously, I've always enjoyed healing no matter what the case. In PvP it's the only logical option since I have no other 200+ combat skills (and you can argue all you want about how that shouldn't matter, but it does when you're going up against multiple masters); in PvE however I still think it's the most exciting thing one can do in a team. In a normal grind the damage-doers/afflictionists use maybe one or two actions the entire hunt, while a healer must have several carefully tweaked healing stanzas ready for any possible situation. I know your remarks are geared more toward PvP, but some of the most exhilarating situations I've seen are those in which a hunt/outpost attack/whatever is on the brink of a wipe and the healers are crucial in keeping it from failure. There are indeed some homins out there that appreciate good healing and make it known with praise, and the fact that healers are the richest target in OP battles is further testament to their importance.

So in general I really don't care if I'm recognized or not, I just enjoy doing it. ;)

I have found being a mobile healer/nuker being the funniest and most challenging role in a Op battle. Sure isnt a easy role but a great amount of fun for a good player :)

As far as healing for PvE it is far to easy... ask some of the kincher groups i healed for... would yell at the tanks for only pulling 2 or 3... hated doing plods with a 2nd healer... they truly need to nerf heals by 20 to 35% to make it a bit more of a challenge...

They nerfed heals some time ago, if I recall they cut them by 50% and made doubles more expensive. My first char was a Zorai and I remember solo healing a 3 person plod team in the void around level 60-70. Plods where squishy then too :)

I love healing at OP battles. Hate leveling it. ick. cause you get yelled at if you type to much and, well...I do a lot of that. :P
Back in the day when Somnus was Lewy...Lewy, Naratuul, Blutbad and I were leveling on kinchers, Soms was able to keep us up no matter how many kinchers were accidently pulled. Nara and I for months walked around, wheres our favorite healer when you need him, after that, didn't seem like anyone healed as well as he did. And didn't seem like anyone could tank as well as Blutbad... Speaking of... where the heck has blutbad gone :(
and... TY Soms for being my favorite healer :P
ah.... memories.
oh oh and ... before they nerfed heals... I remember still having to run into the water in Thesos because we were about to wipe... (All I could do was heal then, and I was crap at it.) :P and Rundll being a pain in our bums trying to drag stuff on our team cause we wouldn't let her team with us...
haha... those were the days!

So true Arc. Seems I heal at most OP these days because most ppl like the glory jobs. Heal has always been my least favorite skill(I mastered it so I wouldn't have to ever heal for xp again :P )I do believe many an OP is decided by the skill of the healers. So peeps give the healers a break. Melee try to stay within 150M of the op and nukes throw a heal once in a while when everyones bars are empty :D .-Kil

During an outpost war, those who keep their system info up will notice the same old people doing alot of damage on you and never seem to die.
Jackoba, mardock and somnus a few names that spring to mind, one thing is for sure they have someone healing them non-stop.
Healing is a great skill i think, only using ranged is more complex. (moving around, loading ammo, picking targets and shooting)
