Question about standings and missions

Post by teylini »

I have been reading about standings and the missions required to gain them. You can "declare neutral" if you are not satisfied with your standings.

Does doing such a thing reset all of the missions required to gain those standings? Meaning, if you decided to go back to that side later, you could run through the missions again?

I've also been reading that the mainland does not have very many missions/quests. I think this is a good thing. Could someone detail what missions/quests are there in addition to the type that control standings?

So there are some general non-standings missions out there? Is there an easy way to know when talking to the npc what the mission type is?

Thank you for your help :)

ALL missions on the mainland can repeated infinitely, assuming you meet any minimum fame requirements.

Except the final step of a rite.

I am assuming here that you are refering to the citizenship and faction specific Rites that "declare" you for that side or as that citizen.

The answer to your first 2 questions would be yes.

If you were refering to the missions that gain the fame to be able to "declare" then technicaly yes. Those missions automaticly reset after a time, generally about 2-3 hours depending on the mission.

as to your last paragraph... that depends on what you define as "many." There are in a sense alot of quests/missions, each quest/mission giver generally has 5+ quests/missions availible. And each tribe, faction, and race have many givers of said quests/missions. All of these do basicly the same thing, Give you "Fame" with those tribes, faction, or race. Some give fame to more than one of the 3, some will give to multiple tribes or some combination thereof. Some of the same quests/missions will also take away "Fame" with certain Tribe(s), faction, or race(s). Or again some combination.

Asside from that, there is something called an "encyclopedia" where certain quests are stored as completed, towards certain "rites". These "rites" you can only succeede once (some you can actualy fail, as they are on time limits), and once you succede, the apropriate "bonus" will appear :p . Of course I wont spoil the specific bonuses.

I hope this answered your questions. (im sure the others answered them too, but wanted to be sure as the "Engrish" language is full of loop-holes) *appologizes to the others*

Awesome. Thank you so much. Am I to assume that the "encyclopedia" rites do not influence faction standings? Since you can only do them once, and yet are allowed to switch sides later.

Civ faction allegiance influences what rites you are permitted to do- by way of capping your max fame possibly below what is necessary for a rite-

Example: A declared Matis citizen can have max of 25 Zorai fame. You need 33 to do a rite- so a Matis citizen can not do any Zorai rites at all.

You can however do all rites while neutral, then choose your civ allegiance. Or even drop civ allegiance to do a rite and then work back to allegiance after.

Kami/Karavan allegiance has no effect on what rites you can do, as all current rites are civ based.

Thank you. I'll see if I can do the rites while neutral. I'm sure I am a long way away from being able to actually finish one, but I wanted to know ahead of time.

The ones that are active do not affect either of the Faction standings as I recal, but they do generate "fame" for the Race or tribe associated with that rite. And as Sehraci said, if you declare for a citizenship, you wont be able to do the rites for certain other Races untill you declare neutral and raise your fame for those Races again.

Many of these "Rites" are sadly unfinished as of yet. :(
But we all hope to see them implemented someday...

So IF you realy want to do them ALL, be perpared for some extreme fame grind.
Remember you´ll have to have the required minimum Fame to do a specific Rite / Mission for a civilisation or Tribe or Faction. Even IF you are neutral.

It will be one HELL of a Famegrind if you are realy determined. ;)
Usually its better to declare yourself either completely neutral, or aleged to one side of the Faction-War. By trying to realy do everything you´ll only subject yourself to endless hours of repeated fame missions to accomblish maybe one or two "special" rites that might grant you something nice, or not.

I won´t give you a link to the finished/unfinished missions, because I want you to first think about what you´re trying to do and what you are expecting to gain from it.

You might, and I´m far from realy knowing it, you might still be on the "WoW-Side" of Quests, so to say. ;)
Expecting each and every Quest to have meaning and some cool reward that you may use and discard later as you see fit. And fame being just a way to get to some other "cool loot" like "Epic Mounts" or whatever.
That is not the case in Ryzom.
While this may be a Game-Breaker for some folks, many of us are actually glad it isn´t like this here. It negates the "need" to grind fame just to get "this cool thingy".
Your Charakter will be completely able to survive without ALL Missions done and without ALL Rite-revards (as few as there are atm). Your fellow players will NOT look down upon you for not having Item X or Spell Y. ;)

Just relax, lean back and enjoy the world of Atys, not the false grind legacy of World of Warcraft.
